I don't think I'd be complaining about a 3.0 liter sedan topping out at 143 mph.

- def. poor paint quality
- shifter feel
- beam rear susp.
- engine access

I think those are the big ones.

lol, not too much there i can see that I haven't fixed with a little bit of work...short throw shifter, suspension...valve body...

I test drove three maximas and they all had moonroofs. However the one I chose has a custom moonroof. It looks factory but the thing that gave it off that it wasn't factory was that it closes when it rains and when you turn the car off. Plus I got the one touch open/close feature HA HA!

Things I don't like....
- Handling ('sport" suspension? where?) It must be hell to be GXE owner
- No fold down seats in the rear
- I like having the tach over to the left

1. Knock Sensor
2. Auto tranny...this car has to have the most horrendous auto tranny i have ever used.
3. No top end power
4. Crap quality paint
5. Cup holders (or lack thereof)
6. 4x4 stance
7. The most annoying shimmying at speeds above 50 (not caused by the balance of the wheels or the alignment)
8. probably a couple more things but i can't think of them right now

I'm guessing he means its a moonroof not sunroof.

The Camry isnt popular bc of any of the reasons you listed...its bc its reliable, comfortable good transportation. The reasons you listed would make a niche car that only appeals to a certain group which would probably worsen sales.

My 91 Toyota Camry with 210,000 miles has a better build quality and smoother ride than my maxima did on stock suspension.

Fade and dull-ness after sometime...doesnt keep the shine like its suppose to.

cupholders are a bit small, headlights/9004 are poop, noises pop up from time to time, stock orange tails, 4x4 stock look, blah blah blah

i hate the fact we all have to throw in mods to make it look half decent, then put in more money to make it run decent.

nevertheless, i love my car

Paint quality is good on Nissans, NOT the best but hell you wanna complain? Look at half the domestics on the road haha Good quality wax and 2 Quality Details a year will keep your paint. But if your not the only owner how can you gripe about the paint if the person before you didnt take care of it?
You cant expect this car to be the equal of lets say a Lexus because that would be an Infinities job. Lexus has the best paint job of a high production auto. Only thing better? Ferrari or maybe a Aston Martin

My complaints?

1) Wish the GLE had a spoiler and FOG lights. I paid the money damnit I want all the trimmings that the other models have and then some!

2) The car isnt that easy to work on.

3) Lights dont turn off when you turn off the car.

4) Factory alarm was *** so I had to change it out.

It causes noobs to join these forums and ask the same freaking questions over and over again. Sometimes you have to argue with 15 year olds to get them to read stickies. All cause this car is soo damn sexy.

Having the differential bearing problem, asking for a '98 tranny for a replacement, only to find out that mother_ leaks too. I'm still waiting for my car... on the various noises, but in all fairness, you'll hear noises on any car that has been driven a fair amount of miles. Compare our cars with other cars with the same mileage.
Also, the SE suspension feels sooo much more tight than GLE's, I don't know what some SE owners are complaining about. (I know, b/c I own both).

I can't stand feeling like I'm floating on the highway in this beast. And don't take a curve at too high of a speed either. You may roll right over. My 91 accord felt like a road hugger compared to this. But hey I wanted the power so there are always trade offs.
I hate the giant pole of a shifter in my console.
The trunk hardware that criss crosses the trunk vibrates LOUD with the bass.
When you shut off the car you don't have a couple of seconds where the windows still roll up. You gotta turn the key back on.
Why couldn't Nissan give us GXE guys a power antenna too?
Rear seats won't fold down.
Knock sensor issues (should have been a recall).
Front seats aren't very comfortable.

This seems like a lot of whining but most of this is minor stuff. I'm glad I got my max. The power is great . And the gas mileage is real good for 190 hp IMO.

yup, I forgot to add, I love my car. The SE doesn't really handle as bad as people make it out. Plus, there's always ways to fix it - fstb, suspension from ground up, etc. All in all, a great buy, and remember, 5 spd.'s go to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds. Enough said.

Besides all of the above mentioned gripes:
1. Horrible manual shifter feel - vague, sometimes doesn't shift into 3rd (need to double clutch), and has long throws
2. Auto transmission steals performance, only has 4spd, and has harsh shifts - if you disagree that it has harsh shifts then you need to drive any recent BMW w/ 5spd auto
3. Rear beam axle - so much body roll it feels like a barge
4. Poor high speed stability - at speeds above 100mph
5. Tops out at 143mph
6. Placement of gas and brake pedals in 5spd's - difficult to do heel and toe braking
7. Lack of VLSD - except for some '99's
8. Torque steer - you better hold on tight on hard launches
9. No 60/40 for the rear seat
10. No rear heated seats
11. Leather seats - seats are not completely leather (only the front/areas of contact w/ passenger's body)

Maybe I'm overly demanding but I think if Nissan considered these oversights then Camry would not be the #1 selling mid-size sedan in America.

Nonetheless, I love my Max just like so many others. VQ30DE is sweet and is very reliable.

Allow me to address your points how i see them.

1. Dont have a manual, no comment
2. Shifts fine. Even my car with 200k on it shifts pretty well, but it does need a shift kit. Feels peppier than my 2003 max did
3. Dont mind the body roll. I don't notice it on the freeway at 80 mph.
4. uhh, the fastest you can drive on the highway without getting a ticket is 85 so I don't see why 100 mph is even an issue. If you want to drive fast, get a 300zx
5. Again, non issue. No reason to be driving that fast.
6. dont have a 5 speed
7. Non issue--not needed, however, scrounge around and if you look hard enough you can find a used qualfe
8. No torque steer in my stocker. You want torque steer, try a late 90's GTP
9. not needed. I have 2 car seats in the rear
10. again, not needed
11. I have cloth and really like the cloth seats in the 96 SE. No rips, tears ,anything at 200k.

1. shifting manual is like rowing a boat. but for the year of the car, it's not that bad and for what a 97 is selling for now, you can spend a few bucks on a new shortthrow shifter.
3. keep in mind that this car is no 350z and was intendend as a "grocery getter" when the marketing people got ahold of it.
7. A different option. Apperantly all of the canadian trannys came with a limited slip diff. I believe it came included with thier "winter package" that included a blockheater.
8. Torque steer might be more prevelant in those with modified suspension but, you are right. I drove a 97 gtp at the same time I purchased my max, and the damn gtp almost put me into a powerpole.
9. I have the same mod. 2 car seats!!
11. Other than the seats being uncomfortable, the leather in mine has held up well. Cleaned 2 times/year and moisturised.

In closing, some of those other options might be nice, but I bought the car BECAUSE of the MOTOR. 7 years in a row on wards' top ten engine list. (when I bought it) In the 4 years that I've owned it, the only thing that I've had to do to it was replace the tires. Now, some of the dash leds are burnt out, and the tires need to be replaced again, and the suspension is leaking, and I need a new muffler. All this does though is give me an excuse to spend $'s on my car with some new mods. All in all, I love the car and would only trade it in on a titan, but with 2 kids, who can afford that?

Before i get to my very short list of issues i have with the max i have to say its one of the best values out there and i love it, that being said..........

- 4 spd auto instead of 5spd auto.
- no one touch up and down on the windows and sunroof.
- like everyone else..... the cupholders.
- no 60/40 split rear seat.
- needs more supportive seats.
- no radio controls on steering wheels.
- hids would have been nice.
- power antenna ( small profile fixed would have been nice )
- memory seat, steering wheel and mirrors settings.

I guess that it is it. Great car though. I'm work for a mercedes dealership that offers me a demo and i pass it up and take the extra money instead because i like driving my maxima instead.

I dont like the paint, my auto, and the 9004 lights, but come on people, it was never meant to be a lexus, and for the price that some of you are paying for some older 4th gens, who can really complain. And yes, when it copmes to crappy paint, alot of the domestics truly take the cake. Pretty scary- talk about a class action.

I don't like that it only has auto down on the driver's window. I think it needs at least down, and should have up on at least the front two.

I don't like that I don't have ABS.
Get one with it if you can. It helps in emergency.

I don't like that the fogs are made of glass and slpit and shatter when they get hit by a rock or something....or that if the housing gets really hot from the 55 watt bulb and then some water hits them, it breaks the glass or something. They should have made them plastic like the headlights on my 99. Rock resistant.

Other than that.....I think I like everything about it.
