I don't like how comfortable it is? On long drives I tend to doze off in it. But thats just me.

I own a '99 so I'll say to buy a '99. There is NOTHING I would gripe about on my Max. Maybe all the time I spend detailing it?? I have 144,xxx on her and she runs like a champ.

Buy you a '99, drive it, maintain it and it will probably run a little under forever.

my $.02...

i own 2 95's, thats shoudl tell you alot, but just the cup holders i guess, i guess japanese cups are the only things that fit in there, clutch pedal is a bit stiff compared to other cars, but i love the quickness and overall luxury. its agood bang for teh buck because of its resale

ditto on the cup holders, what the hell kinda cups can you fit in there. im guessing japanese Mc Donalds dont have super size over there....probably y they arent over weight like us lol.

i dont like the interior much, its better than anyother car ive been in for the repective model year but it just seems rather cheap for what the car is.

i dont like the location of the knock sensor and the fact that it has problems every now n then

stock wheel gap is bad. if they wanted it to be labled a 4dsc it should have had a more aggresive stance, but i cant complain cause just about every other car for the same model year had bad wheel gap.

other than that i love my car.
p.s
i h8 the nissan dealerships if that counts

cupholders..

i dont like how it still feels like a boat to me even though i have a good amount of money in suspension stuff.

i hate the too much power in the power steering. feels kinda numb to the road when compared to my my g20, 240sx, and my old integra.

Two problems in one:
a fwd transmission that will never hold power.

Other than that - I love A32's!

on paint quality, esp. w/ Pearl White paint
- ABS not standard until the 5th gen debut in '00
- Low Washer Fluid light not standard, has to be ordered in a pkg.
- Belt access

can't really think of anything else I don't like about my Max other than these small gripes

road noise. Its not as bad but it can get really loud depending on the road conditions. Maybe is just that is an older car but even a jetta keeps the sound out a lot better

I don't like the fact that Nissan decided to make it FWD. They should have stuck with RWD 20 years ago. I don't like the fact that I got the welfare SE. No sunroof, no leather, AT, blah blah. Other than that, I love my car.

This is the first automatic I have ever owned. So maybe I'm just not used to it.

But I cannot stand driving around town in OD. The transmission tries to shift into 4th gear everytime I let off the gas - then I have to plant the pedal down more to downshift again back where it should be.

Easy fix though - I just leave the car out of OD until I get on the interstate.

But it says that in the owners manual so it probably is just me.

Try and find one with ABS. It has already saved my a$$ twice (used to driving civic). Also, get power / heated / leather seats - trust me on this.

Guys, you have to be joking....the 4th gen has so many shortcomings that it's not even funny!

Besides all of the above mentioned gripes:
1. Horrible manual shifter feel - vague, sometimes doesn't shift into 3rd (need to double clutch), and has long throws
2. Auto transmission steals performance, only has 4spd, and has harsh shifts - if you disagree that it has harsh shifts then you need to drive any recent BMW w/ 5spd auto
3. Rear beam axle - so much body roll it feels like a barge
4. Poor high speed stability - at speeds above 100mph
5. Tops out at 143mph
6. Placement of gas and brake pedals in 5spd's - difficult to do heel and toe braking
7. Lack of VLSD - except for some '99's
8. Torque steer - you better hold on tight on hard launches
9. No 60/40 for the rear seat
10. No rear heated seats
11. Leather seats - seats are not completely leather (only the front/areas of contact w/ passenger's body)

Maybe I'm overly demanding but I think if Nissan considered these oversights then Camry would not be the #1 selling mid-size sedan in America.

Nonetheless, I love my Max just like so many others. VQ30DE is sweet and is very reliable.

Holy crap dude You are really not happy with the car at all. How are you comparing your 4th gen to a recent BMW
I didn't know that the same gen Camry had all the options you listed.
How often you drive at 120mph?

1) Bose needs more bass
2) Seats need slightly more cushion (my Mom's 1997 ES300 is way more comfortable to sit in, especially for long distances)
3) Auto tranny is not most smooth shifter (again the ES300)
4) NO ONE BUTTON SUNROOF
5) GLE does not come with foglights / spoilder (I got aftermarket spoiler that looks great though)
6) My GLE honeycomb rims suck *** and I don't have the money to buy new ones right now
7) LEDs seem to go out a lot in dash

Overall, great car for the price though...and seem to be pretty reliable (knock on wood)

Optimus310, that's not what I meant...
I'm not comparing the 4th gen to a recent BMW rather pointing out that the 5spd Auto transmissions in BMW's are really great and that the Auto tranny in 4th gen's suck.

It doesn't really matter that the comparitive Camry's lacked some features that Maxima offered since Camry's had much better built quality and that's the primary reason that those cars were the top seller.

Quite often, but not everyday...although that's not really safe on public roads.

suspension if you use harder shocks and springs you suffer the harsness if not you have a car that handle like a waverunner

also no roll up windows on remote if you roll them down by accident like my kids do all the time

i think camrys do well primarily because they have 2 engines. from my experience, majority of the camrys i see are 4 cyls. 6 cyls are driven by those who can appreciate a lil more power. the ones who buy 4 cyl camrys are just lookin for a car to do daily driving, a larger than compact style car, need some comfort amenities and has a good track record on quality. imo the camry is a crappy car, im more of a driver who drives not only as a necessity but as recreation and if ou drive for recreation a 4 cyl stock camry with cloth interior is not gonna be your 1st choice. albeit a maxima wouldnt be my 1st choice as a recreation driver but for the cost it is a great competitor and is far better than a camry either i4 or v6. besides look at the price of a new camry and a new maxima. new entry level 04 maxima se is like 26k+ while entry level 04 4 cyl camry is as low as 16k at toyota of hollywood.

other things i dont like about my maxima is the creaking the dash makes. the rear seats dont fold down. my rear doors make a moaning grinding noise when oppening closing AND ITS NOT ONLY MY MAX. headlights have poooooooorr visibility.

-poor paint
-no one touch sunroof/non driver windows
-not that comfy (compared to a lexus)
-transmission never seems to be in the right gear, and it just isnt all that smooth (compared to an audi)
-heavy steering (compared to audi)
-huge wheel gap
-no projection/hid headlights

thats all i can think of for now. *sigh* i loves it anyways.

The fact a Maxima is a 4-door grocery getter. How about a 2-door hatchback design like the Eclipse or Celica? It would be nice if they had a model available like this...
Also, other problems I have are anxieties over sudden car trouble (although this would hold true for ANY car) since it has 120K miles- but runs/handles like many cars I've driven with less than 50K miles. Oh yeah I also hate how I can get so many girls in my car that even though they're 130 lbs each they just hafta weigh down my car and I can't dust ricers as badly as I can.
