Detailing and trunk repair

So one of my buddies works at a auto body shop. I took my '96 max to him to see what he could do about some scratches and some rust that has been accumulating around the spoiler joints. He gave me a statement that said it would cost $300 for a buffing and repainting of the trunk lid. Is this a good estamate? I just don't want to be spending 300 bucks right b4 I go back to school when I could be spending it on something else....
