check engin light on

HI all,
My 96' Maxima Engine light is on and AUTO-ZONE give the code P0704, which is said gear 4th incorrect and the computer said Clutch Switch Malfunction. What does this all mean? Do I need to replace my Clutch Switch or Clutch?

Also, Do I need to replace my timing-belt? I never got it replace before because my friend told me it is a chain-timing-belft so I don't need to replace it. It this correct?

Thanks
Kabam

I already told you in the last thread that a P0704 isn't a valid code on the 96 max according to the FSM. It's either p0740 or p0734.

Why don't you check the codes yourself, read the sticky that says "Help my check engine light is on!"

p0734 = 1106

Ok, just went back to auto-zone and got a code p0734, which is (code 1106)Improper Shifting to Fourth Gear (A/T). So, what does this mean and what do I need to do to get that check out?

Thanks,
Kabam

Go to the dealer, you obviously won't be able to fix it. That code is mechanical not electrical. Meaning that a solenoid or something might be bad.

P0740

Do you know what I should do for a P0740 error? The description is TCC Circuit Malfunction.
thanks

Also, your Maxima has a timing chain, not a belt. The chain is vertually maintenance free as I understand it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

correct it is a chain, and if anything, you'd want to replace the tensioner, but that really isn't nessesary.
