i had my car serviced at the dealer and they are telling me that i have to re set/program my ecu and they are charging 180 dollars for it. should i do it or is there a way of me doing it. I know how to reset the check engine light but does that reprogram everything???? let me know

Does this have anything to do with the security light staying on while you're trying to start your car, and it won't start? I remember having to go to the dealer to have the code "reprogrammed" for the car to start. Just curious.

Our ECUs aren't reprogrammable, flashable. The security light comes on only on the 99s cause you need the original keyt with the chip inside it. If you have just a normal key without the chip the car won't start and the security light will be on the whole time.

ok they siad they need to flash a new program
but do i really need that or can i just reset it??? is it worth paying that 180???
