Im lookign to buy an extra set of upper and lower intake manifolds, and was wondering if anyone has ever tried to "port" their intake manifolds and the effects of it. Thanks!

 

Just get a die grinder and hog those babies out as big as you can.

Remember, bigger is better.

 

Some guy did it a while back, all he saw was a shift in his powerband, so basically, his peaks went about 300-500 rpms higher. I think he put down 193fwhp USIM. Might be in the dyno forums.

Yup just found it check the dyno forums last page, Kevin97SE, 191 fwhp 199 ft/lbs extrude/honed USIM.

1 Con is that you might lose low end power. He has a MEVI now, but get in contact with him to see his old dyno, I know he posted it.

Come on man you've been here long enough to know how!!! Go to the dyno forum, 2nd page, as I stated earlier, look for his name, Kevein97SE and click on it, it should have all you're looking for on that screen. . .

 

Why would you lose low end power? Is there any reason as to why this would make the low end power worse?

 

1) I believe Kev said it wasn't worth it.
2) That process cost over $500.

Loss of low end power. It has to do with lower gas velocities and a higher intake resonance points.

 

oh sorry, i havent been on for a while and I didnt really read over the dyno page part, stupid me. Wow over $500? why so much? Liek I said, Im more of a low end power guy, i dont race, but I thought the idea of smoother and faster air going in to my engine would be nice.

 

Smoother and faster air is good. But this doesn't achieve that in any meaningful amount. I thought that was clear?

 

I saw a place online that said they would do 6cyl engine manifolds for $360

 

Careful in the terminology. Extrude Honing is similar to polishing the runners and getting rid of tight turns & constrictions. Porting is actually griding, opening them and making wider paths either at the ends of throughout. Either one couldn't hurt.
