Tachometer going CRAZY!
Tachometer going CRAZY!
OK basically my tachometer in my 95 maxima (which I just got) has been going crazy, sometimes it works, and sometimes it just slowly (like over a period of an hour) makes its way up to 8000, passes it, then just sticks. I'm thinking its as simple as a loose connection somewhere but I'm not 100% sure.
I looked around the howtos and they say how to take the gauges out, but before I started doing that I wanted to know if there are wires I should trace leading somewhere to check for a short?
Thanks,
Josh

Before you take anything apart, I would have your alternator and battery checked. That happened to me on my old Honda Accord and it was the alternator going bad which in turn drained my battery. I am willing to bet it is your alternator.
Please let us know what you find out. I hope this helped.

I'm pretty sure its not the alternator, because it was replaced about a year ago, and this started about 2 years ago.
It's just really annoying, and I just got this 95 (selling my 91 maxima) and I use the tachometer a lot when driving because I usually have the radio pretty loud.
