Fuel filter replacement...
Fuel filter replacement...
I own a 96' with 119K on it an im not too sure if the fuel filter has ever been changed before.. Since I am coming up on 120K miles I was thinking that it would be a good idea to change the fuel filter because my car feels somewhat sluggish.. I have cleaned out my throttle body, changed spark plugs, and cleaned an re-oiled my K&N filter and intake within the last 10K miles.. Would changing my fuel filter possibly help with the sluggishness I feel? All help & input is appreciated.. Thanks..
oh yeah if your fuel filter gets to cloged you car will not be running. i would change it out right away before you have more problems than just your furl filter. i would change it about every 30k

its part of regular maintenance and needs to be done regardless of wether or nt there is a performance gain.....
ever look inside if a old fuel filter. its takes all the grim in your fuel and filters it out.just look at this old fuel filter

man you gotta love the false information, theres always solids suspended in anything, no manufacturing procedure is perfect, thats why yu need a fuel filter to prevent sediments from entering your system.
I would get one from the with a magnet built into it, because the rust in the fuel system gets trapped on the magnet. I really didn't feel any improvements but knowing that its replaced gives me a good piece of mind.

Dont forget to depressurize the fuel system prior to taking out the old one. Just pull the fuel pump fuse, then crank the car until it doesnt fire. This will make replacement a little easier and cleaner (less fuel spilled).
i bought a 95 max se with 97k on it.. i had to change everything out that i could so that i knew when it was done.. the fuel filter was so dirty and old lookingi knew it was the original one.. when i took it off the gas that ran out looked like oil... car idled a little smoother but didnt make a big difference. but to think that much dirt was just waiting for that filter to somehow let it through was a bad feeling.. its easy to change.. just do it..

I know for sure it hasn't been replaced since i've owned the car. I've had my 96 since 2001 and ive put almost 30k on it in that time (over 3 yrs).. I think I might just pick up the one sold at AutoZone for $10..

BUt going back to the subject at hand, if you change the fuel filter you will not see a significant performance difference. I didn't say you shouldn't change it but its not critical to do it to often. If you ever saw a fuel pump you would notice that there is a filter on that which catches the bigger particles that are in the fuel. Only smaller particles are caught by the fuel filter.
Which shouldn't clog up the filter very quick. So changing it often in not necessary imop.
thats why if i am not mistaken and please correct me the newer maximas have filters that are permanent in the fuel tank. Let me know if i am incorrect on that.
ALso changing the air filter and oil will make the car alot more responsive.

go to www.motorvate.ca he has a how-to change the fuel filter. You won't feel any gains from changing it but you may notice your idle may be different rigth after you change it... I just changed mine this weekend along with my oil, brakes and rotors. Not to tough of a job.

you must not know anythnig about cars if you are not going to chage you fuel filter a fuel filter if cloged car cause major hp losses and if you worked on cars witch you dont you would known it could even create a no start condition
why do i know the you ask lets see i have done 5 years of training it the automotive feild and now work for BMW and if you want to ask anyone just go to any dealership and ask one of there techs that and tell them your point and wach them laugh at you the "fliter" on the fuel pump is a fuel pump screen and only picks up larger objects on the 95-99 maxima the filter does the rest im not sure the injectors may also have a screen to catch even finer cointaminates
in short dont give bad info if you dont know
have a nice day
