Ignition problems, please help

I had problems with the starter about 6 months ago. I replaced the starter and later on found out the problem could have been fixed with a new grease pack in the starter. Since last 4-5 months, I am having problems starting the vehicle. The engine cranks and has problems starting when I start the car. I only have the problem if the engine if cold, meaning if the car has been parked a little while. After it starts once, then if I turn the ignition off, and then restart, I dont seem to have any problem. I am having a hard time figuring out what the problem is. Could it be the fuel filter or a clogged injector ?? It doesnt seem electrical, because, I can hear the engine cranking and trying to start. But, while trying to start, it causes a loud screeching noise. Almost sounds like the gear teeth are slipping. Please help.
