1997 GLE Question

Hey guys I am new to the maxima and this board and I have a few questions. I just bought a 1997 black maxima GLE and it has 140,431 miles on it. So I was looking on e-bay and I found a 97 motor for 400 dollars and a 2000 motor for 500 dollars. I was wondering if the 2000 motor will bolt right up to my car or if I will need to do alot of other stuff before it can work. Also will I need the 2000 tranny if the engine bolts right in?

Thanks

Why do you need to replce the motor?

Well because it has 140,000 miles on it. Is there another way to make the engine like new?

That's not a lot of miles.

Do a compression check. If that is within spec, replac the knock sensor, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil & filter, accessory belts...

Then it will be as good as new.

What a waste, you buy a 7 year old car and expect it to be new? 140K on VQ's is nothing. Like mzmtg said, if your THAT worried about it, get a compression check done, if thats good then dont worry about a thing, just routine maintenance and you'll be running forever.

COOL!!! Okay then i'll do that. Never knew my car is that reliable. I had a Mazda MX-6 previously and it had 115,000 miles I serviced it and didn't race it or anything but it broke down like no other and I lost the Low gear so thats why I was kind of worried. Any suggestions on preformance mods that I should get? I have 2000 dollars left over so what kind of good mods can I get with that?

LOL thanks guys i'm very happy with my car I think I am going to do some cosmetic things first like the DC clear bumper lights get a tail that looks like the stock one and a stillen front lip and maybe a decent set of rims. Then with what ever I have left after that I'll do preformance mods since I want it to look nice more than be fast since its fast already.

Oh, my 1995 GXE has 196k miles and runs 15.0 in the quarter. It's still plenty strong.

i have 150,000 on my 99 and it was getting rickety and sluggish and i thought it was the end but i replaced the knock sensor, fuel filter, spark plugs, new (better) cone filter, and replaced the accesory belts cause mine used to sqweek real bad and now its like night and day when i was done especially with the knock sensor it was like crazy better acceleration and how much better the car just ran period i also now use only 93 octane so that helped a lil bit

Wow... I was getting mad because my car is reaching 100k miles... I was all complaining and was about to get a new car... but after reading this forum.. i feel better about my car... thanx guys....

What is a compression test?

I think what I will do after winter is get all replacements on knock sensor, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, oil & filter, accessory belts

Where is the fuel filter located?

if I'm correct you should do the belt, spark plugs, and water pump. I suggest going to shuch to get their water pump because it's a lifetime warranty one.

But also dont expect every engine to last that long.
MY max's undergoing a heart transplant right now since the timing chain slipped and caused alot of damage in there (it was only 110000 miles young), BUT worrie about that when that actually happens, dont go spending money on it before you really need to.

People are far too eager to dump an old car, as if 100k is suddenly the thing on its last legs. The third last car I bought had 142k on it. I dumped 30k on it, never had any problems, and sold it. Unless your car is giving you problems, don't worry about the mileage.
