Levoc shift knob question

Levoc shift **** question
Just got the auto levoc shift **** in today... but I have 2 questions for those of you who have installed it or know what to do.
1) It sits really really high and i don't like that...seems if i cut anymore off of the rubber extender connected to the **** it wont fit perfectly to the screw holes, does that matter? One picture i saw didnt look like there even was an extender, wander if he cut the shifter down...but i dont think thats safe.
2) sometimes i hear a random whine sumwhere under my hood, i dont know where its from because we connected the overdrive wires perfect and the my transmission runs just as before w/ overdrive. Dont know what its coming from so any help would be appreciated! Thanks
