Car stalls for 3-5 seconds when I punch the gas
Automatic Transmission:
Like when I'm entering the freeway, I punch the gas, and it takes a few seconds to actually kick in. I checked my throttle cable, and that's tight(with very little play). What other possibilities could there be?

my problem is ill stomp the as and the rpm's would jump up but there would be a lil pause before the car pics up. from what everyone has told me is that its the normal lag of our trannys. could be your knock sensor too, who knows...... did u check for codes?

I think it's the normal lag of our auto trannies... I was reading on 4th gen Maximas on um... consumerreports.com? One of those sites, anyways... anyhow, it was talking about how a common problem was bad material on the auto tranny clutch plate or something, which caused slippage on hard shifts and such.

it's a knock sensor problem.

nope u will just ge a bloody hand lol and hey if its not the knock sensor i could be your tranny my old car had the exect problem, it could be the servos need to be replaced and its a pain in the a$$ cross you fingers that its the knock sensor man

Sorry guys, but it is silly to be telling a guy to go changing $100 sensors without him even checking for codes first. If there is no code, he should still check the resistance of his sensor before replacing it. What he describes seems like either a normal automatic or a hesitation problem. Not a knock sensor issue at all.

something worth trying...
I'm not sure what speed you're moving at when you 'punch it', but if you have overdrive turned on, try turning it off when you're about to start kicking it into highway speed. You're lag might be caused by your tranny not being able to drop down into 3rd quickly and consistantly. I've got a similiar problem, so to guarantee that I can accelerate to highway speed every time, I turn off overdrive while accelerating, then turn it back on for cruising.

auto tranny. it has to it has to rev, synchonize and shift. it takes longer than a 5 speed. in most auto trannies, you will experience this.
sometimes, if your going slow and your tranny decides no to downshift at all. there will be lag casue you have an auto trying to accell from 1.5k rmp or something.
knock may help, but you wil always have the auto's downshifting lag no matter what.
