Easy way to remove alternator bearing?

The alternator bearing in our 95 SE is bad and I need to know if there is an easy way to get the bearing+top cover off.
When our GXE alternator died I got a used replacement alternator and had to change the bearings on it. I used a large puller and the cover came off ok but plate with the 3 screws that holds the bearing in got bent a little. Then when I tried the puller on the bad alternator, to see if there was anything inside to salvage, the top cover broke since the puller I used, holds the outer edges of the cover.
I don't want to break the SE alternator cover cause this time I don't have a replacement alternator. Is there some kind of specialised puller that goes through the holes in the top cover? Any info on removing the bearing would be helpful. Thanks.

Take the screws that hold the case together out and seperate the case. You should be able to access the bearings from inside. Replacement bearings can be ordered from some auto parts stores, a bearing number will be stamped on the bearings in your old alternator. If Nissan sells a brush assembly you might want to consider replacing that as well, then your alternator is completely rebuilt.

The bottom part of the case comes of easy so i can get to the brushes and the lower bearing but the top part of the case cannot be removed from the bearing easily since there is a metal plate backing that is held in place by three screws that you can only access after the case is removed. Therefore the top part of the case cannot be removed without removing the bearing.

So you need to press the front bearing out first? Or am I not following you on this...

A little heat might help it come apart nice and easy.
