Quietest Muffler

Just want to hear feedback from actual owners, not gossip or readings from faulty sites, about the quietest aftermarket muffler available for the 4th gen. I am looking for the most performance possible and the quietest sound. Most like stock.

If you want to stay quiet, stay stock.

A stock muffler on a Y-pipe, B-pipe combo is only costing you maybe 3hp compared to a full cat back.

But i'm afraid that the y-pipe/b-pipe/stock muffler combo will sound terrible. As for the Greddy SP-1, I heard thats not compatabile w/ 98's. Did any custom installation work have to be done in order to fit the 98? Thanks again fellas, your experience is greatly appreicated by this fellow orger.

I just looked up the Warpspeed "Q" muffler @ www.warpspeedperformance.com. Does anyone have any experience with this muffler? I'm pretty sure it is a new muffler. And how would it sound coupled w/ a Place Racing CAI/Warpspeed Y-pipe in a 98 auto?

Hey do you mean the apexi ws catback. If it is let me know how much modication you did to get it on because I know that it made for the 95 and 96 only.

the Apexi WS catback is not the same thing. jdm was referring to "Warpspeed" when posting "WS."

I have the Dynomax Superturbo muffler and it is quiet. It has a nice tone to it and doesn't sound too loud at all.

It's not the muffler that makes everythinhg quiet its resonators and everything else thru out. I had a so called quiet muffler but w/o proper tuning aka resonators i wouldnt be as quiet today.

I got it from igor911 on here. Just check the 5th gen for sale forum, they pop up fairly often.

allright, I just got my car back, and I only had a chance to drive it about 15 miles, but I'm very happy with the 5th gen muffler so far. It's quiet, but sounds a bit more aggressive than stock. There is a slight bit of raspiness, but that is just from the brand new y-pipe, so I expect that will go away soon. Even if it doesn't, it isn't bad at all. My full setup is a warpspeed y-pipe, stock cat, budget b-pipe, and 2k3 muffler. I would definately recomend this muffler.

Stay stock if you want quiet. If you want performance I'd say Cattman Catback. Sounds like an Audi.

I've had the WS "quiet" muffler for some time now...I was one of the very first to get it...

I've been to many maxima meets....heard it all, apexi, greddy, cattman etc....this muffler is by far the quietest yet...now I have a resonated B pipe..so that has something to do with it too...but to this day...every meet I go to, I can't stop getting compliments on the rich, quiet, least ricey sound the WS "quiet" muffler produces from all the maxima guys attending!!! plus as a bonus they let you choose from 6 different tips...of all different sizes...they even have one that looks stock! not to mention the WS muffler is almost half the price of all the other mufflers out there cause it's aluminized not stainless like the apexi or greddy...I wouldn't trade this muffler for anything!!! the second quietest muffler I have ever heard on the max is the apexi WS...very close in volume as the WS!

I'm running a warpspeed Y, Gutted (unwillingly) Cat, which is being replaced tomm and no resonators. Got it on tonight and already hate driving my car, it's way to loud. So tomm. a new Cat is going on and a resonator. I'm running a cheap muffler also, but it's one of the better looking ones. I'll let you know how it turns out.

SWEET!!! did you get the full cat-back? or just the muffler? doesn't the muffler has to be customized to fit the stock b-pipe? i think it was a warpspeed represenative who said that's why they sell the cat-back so that it could just bolt up... which im hoping it does!

just remember to have that resonator on ur B-Pipe for realz.I have a custom-made B-pipe without one. Only reason mine dosnt sound like sh*t is because i have stock muffler. its has a bit of a throaty sound underneath the car. the a$$ is quite tho, tiny bit louder than stock is all.

As long as everyone is on the topic, I just bought a modded 97 SE. The guy lists the exhaust mods as:

Cattman Y-Pipe
A'PEXi exhaust
Random Technology Free Flow Catalytic Converter

I'm 35 and use the car for customer calls. I like the power, but the Apex pipe on the back looks GIANT. A little too much kiddo-bling for me ;-) It is a bit loud (for me) as well. What would be the best thing for me to change-- if I get rid of that big-*** APEXi, what would be the best replacement that might be a good fit for the rest of the setup and quiet this down a bit?

you could have an exhaust shop add a resonator to the b-pipe... not sure if one is there or not, but another one would probably do it for you!

Has anyone ran y/b/stock muffler? How does that sound when resonated? I think i'm leaning toward the WS Quiest Muffler or the Dynomax Super Turbo. I think the dual tipped 5-Gen stock mufflers are ugly. Plus they dont look right under the rear bumper w/ the single cut. Any other advice?

Do you work for warpspeed?

I have been trying to get pics / vid clips / sound clips / ANYTHING about this mythical muffler for weeks and never a reply. I have tried calling and e-mailed Dallas a week ago with no response.

Raising the flag until I see at least an MSPaint drawing of this muffler:

Back on topic. I have a 5th gen muffler. It's the same as a 4th gen (hangers and all), but it has an extra tip with a ceramic valve that opens at high pressure. Sounds little if no different than the 4th gen muffler I had before and it was rusted to pieces.

Here is a vid of it with hacked airbox / wsp y-pipe / 2K muffler:

http://www.v6atlanta.com/vids/2kexhaust.WMV

Right now I am looking at dynomax. Anyone have pics or soundclips?

read my post SMOKEYMOUNTAIN....my stock muffler with the y pipe, b pipe (resonated), and high-flow cat, sound like crap...@ idle it "putted" like a go cart...cause the muffler couldn't keep up with the rest of the exhaust...

anyway, here are some pics for you ScarfaceTHX:

http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mic...yden/my_photos

you might have to brighten them up in photoshop or something...they are quite dark...but it might be just my monitor....

Mike, u got me VERY interested in the WS "Q" muffler as of right now. How is the performance difference from the stock catback? So the whole catback from WS was 275 shipped? Maybe we can meet up so i can check out your exhaust set-up. I'm around the UCLA area. thanks bro

The WS combo may be the way to go for me. I was thinking of just changing out the b-pipe, but if the muffler is pretty quiet I may just go with their full catback.

well...I did my exhaust setup in stages kinda so I didn't get to feel what I should have...in other words, I slowly accumulated it all...in pieces, but the y pipe is nothing like they make it out to be on the forums here...it's not night and day....but it's definitely there....if I had a chance to do it all over again, I would do it all at once!

but yeah smokeymountain...just pm me about meeting up...I would be happy to let you hear it and put all this speculation and conjecture to rest in this thread...the only problem with our cars are that you can barely hear the exhaust at times cause the intake sound is so loud and overbearing at the throttle positions where you can really start to hear the exhaust is where the intake growl really starts to come into play!
