Help me please!!!!!starting problem; it WILL NOT

Ok here is the deal
96 maxima 5sp
A week ago today got tranny back in the car and it has been running great since. No problems.

Yesterday I went to go start my car after work and I put the key in and clutch down, and key went to acc like normal then on, all lights work properly and when I go to crank the car over, its nothing, just like if I was to not have the clutch in. I tried like 5 times nothing. So i let it sit, checked the connections on the starter, all good. So i tried it like 5 minutes later and it started right up, odd ok well weird. I then drove 35 minutes and started it probably 5-10 more times last night without any problems.

But this morning I went to go to work and I put the key and in and clutch down and nothing. Would not crank over, i check connections on starter again all fine. And still nothing. WHY WILL MY CAR NOT START. I am so upset i just spent 1200 on tranny now this. What is it help me please

What else is in the starting path

What else could it be in the path from the ignition to the starter. Do you all agree starter going out or is there a cylinoid or anything or what else could it be. Help me guys, thanks

Could also be your clutch switch - not sure exactly what it is called, but it prevents the car from starting unless the clutch is depressed... that switch might be acting up.

The clutch switch on my lude is on the top of the clutch pedal. I'd imagine it's the same on the Max...

I ran into a similar problem a few years back. The Nissan techs misdiagnosed it as a bad starter and gave me a new one (needless to say, it still happened).

Turned out that the ignition was "loose" so basically it didn't think I was turning the key at all. Fixed that, and it's worked fine ever since.

EDIT: ps it happened randomly to me, and they couldn't get it to happen at all (that's why they thought they fixed it)

Next time it happens, turn the key back, jiggle it around while still in the ignition, and try it again.

OK i tried direct

Ok it will not start again, I tried directly connecting that little wire off the top of the starter/cyliniod to get the starter to turn over to eleminate the starter being bad or eliminating things like the ignition. Well when the starter was directly connected it would not turn over at all. Last night when the starter was working, it would turn over when i directly connected it. SO that means that the starter is bad right?? Because I gave it direct power from batter on that little black wire that is the trip wire (the wire has a grey clip and is directly connected to starter cyliniod) and the starter did not rotate. Thanks Rich

This a classic case of grease in the starter going bad (sticky). Take out the starter, disassemble it, clean out the old dried grease, then reassemble and install. That's all there is to it. The solenoid armature (the piston part), is connected to the gear that slides on a shaft. For the contacts in the solenoid to close, the gear must move freely on the shaft. The bad grease prevents this. The magnetic field in the solenoid pulls on the armature and pushes the gear along the shaft. When the gear is at it's most forward point, the electrical contacts in the solenoid allow current to go to the starter windings. If the gear won't move enough, the contacts will not close and the starter windings will not get any juice. Next time it won't start, try rapping the outside of the case with a metal tool or something and try again. It will
usually starts after that. I had exactly your symptoms, regreased the starter, and no problems for over a year now. Good luck.

Try the connectors from the battery to the starter. They get old and corroded...I had same problem with mine. Changed the camshaft position sensor and it fixed the problem. Doesnt sound like the starter from the description...I dont think there is enough power getting to the starter
