Anyone's max feel faster on a full tank?

I couldn't tell anyone why, but I'd swear to god my 95 feels smoother on a full tank of regular unleaded. Anyone know why, or have the same feeling?

why are u using regular? i heard that actually kills your knock sensor faster or something? our car needs higher octane for maximum performance

No matter what it feels like, I know my car is not faster with over 100 extra pounds of fuel in the tank.

I know it's not rational, but I've noticed that too proguitar...

It's happened with all my previous cars, they all seem just a tad faster and smoother just pulling out of the gas station. But, it's probably all in our heads, since it's all extra weight like mzmtg said

I get better throttle response on a full tank than when I'm down 10 gallons.

Like Mzmtg mentioned your car is deffinitly heavier so faster probably isn't the case. What might be the reason is well 2 things. With a full tank of gas your fuel pump isn't working as hard to supply the engine with fuel. So that could be the explaination for better response. And second, since there is more weight in the A$$ end of the car weight transfer under acceleration feels more drastic. So that can account for that lean you back in your seat feeling. But I would be willing to bet that you are deffinitly slower in the 1/4 mile with a full tank of gas.

I agree with the above comment. I actually find that my best throttle response is at full tank but my car "feels" fastest at quarter to half tank. It's probably all in my head but the above post makes some sense to me.

My car also feels to ride smoother with a full tank of gas, it also does this when my family is in the car. Must be due to the weight, but I know it makes the slower. As far as being faster, I remember reading a thread a while back where someone had dynoed their car with the regular unleaded instead of the recommended premium and they lost some ponies.

When I say smoother, I meant to say that the actual ride of the car felt smoother due to the suspension having more wieght on it. Not due to the engine feeling smoother.

I would think that the car would be alittle smoother with a couple of extra gallons. The car doesn't have to stuggle for fuel and the fuel is there until it runs out.

sigh that just says everything....

and for your question yes at times it does feel smoother and a bit faster, but I use nothing but 94 octane. try upgrading and you will notice a more obivous difference.

I only use premium...and I notice a different with more gas in the tank!!! feels like it consistently pulls harder...but that has to be mental! although our fuel pumps are quite old by now...the true test will be when I replace it with the walbro and see if fuel levels make a difference...

if you have being using regular gas for the 10 years of the car, I adivice to check your know sensor replace it, then put some premius gas, (1/4 or full tank, what ever you prefer) then try out your car, and you will see how much faster ans smoother your car will run.

Its because gas weighs quite abit, any car will feel smoother (in terms of ride).

the acceleration probably is more consistant and the car feels faster

I think the best reason for this is like others said about the fuel pump. Also there always is junk on the bottom of the tank that the pump will pick up so maybe that why.

Haha!! How many times have I heard a reference to alcohol from you?? If you live in Omaha, we should hang sometime.

Oh yeah, back to the topic. I used to put 89 octane in my car. The day I filled it up with 91, I could easily feel the diff. Use premium dude.

We all know by now that a LSD doesn't help in acceleration rather in turning.

Bahahaha...too funny. How do you figure it doesn't help in acceleration?? Granted most factory LSD's aren't a true 50/50 torque split but aftermarket LSD's can very well aid acceleration, especially with FWD cars where more torque is transmitted to one wheel more than the other naturally due to the unequal length drive axles.

And to the original poster, if the difference between a full tank and an empty one is VERY noticeable your fuel pump might be on the way out.
