Need help in choosing exhaust
Hi!,
I have a 1998 Maxima SE, and I am in desperate need of getting the exhaust system replaced, due to some major rust damage. First off, the entire exhaust is completely stock, and I have never done any mods to the car. I am not really concerned about an increase in power, but I really don't want an exhaust that would make the car louder. That is just not my thing. The rust goes from the mid-pipe all the way back to the muffler. The muffler is badly rusted the most, with pieced of oxidized metal falling off. I am not sure if there is any on the cat or y-pipe, but maybe it would be a good idea to get it all replaced. I have looked into cattman, and don't want to sound cheap, but $1100 for the whole thing is kind of pricey given that I will probably keep the car for no longer than 2 years. I do have second thoughts though, since I think that full stainless steel would last longer and perhaps increase re-sale value. Please give me some insight. Thanks.

not a problem... the most expensive y is 350 from cattman... you can get their header/y together for 8... and get a warpspeed quiet catback for 275... thats 1075...
i already ordered this catback, and it was supposed to be sent on tuesday so whenever i get it, i will put sound clips on my site for the org to listen to...

I just am not sure what direction to go at this point with the exhaust. Money is not an issue, but like I said, probably won't want to keep it for more than 2 years. It's a great car, but at that time it will be kind of old. So I do want to get everything done before winter comes, and this weekend the max is already at the mechanic for a tune-up, wheel alignment, and brakes. I do however think that Billy's idea is great, and probably will go with that. What do you guys think about muffler shops? I have heard the negatives, and positives, but Midas offers this $300 catback. I am a little skeptical about that though, but you never know maybe its good. Thanks
Yeah, I checked at the dealer for a new factory exhaust, and they said that they don't carry anymore (I really don't believe that). I checked and looked everywhere, and to my knowledge the company by the name of Arvin is the one that made stock OEM systems for 98 Maximas. I went on their website, but they do not have any pictures, and no way that I found able to order.
dont get nuttin at all...your gettin rid of it..let the next person worry bout it...i can understand if ur car is runnin like crap...but if u dont care about power and only about money...then keep your money and dont worry about anything
Don't get me wrong; I don't really care about making the car MORE powerful than it is stock, but I do care about the loss of power since I purchased it practically new. My 1987 Chevy Nova with 241,300 miles has better pick up than my Maxima now does. And that is a 1.6 liter 4 versus a 3.0 V-6 Now something is definitely f@#$$% up with that. And the Nova is a shi^^y cracker box which I don't even take care of that good. Well maybe the tune-up will help. I will be getting the Max back tomorrow or Tuesday. Will let you guys know. The rusty exhaust is something that the mechanic suggested could be holding back the power, since there are holes in it.

How about a complete setup from Ypipe to muffler from WarpSpeed and they said you can get a Group Deal by calling up. Regardless I think it $590 the entire package that is pretty good and they claim around 27 HP gain. That's pretty cheap and looks and sounds nice not loud but with some muscle. Check it out.
