Question while resetting ecu

Hi, i changed my knock sensor today, and while i was resetting the ECU, i noticed that when i turn the dial counter-clockwise, it does not come to a stop. However, there is a stop when i turn it clockwise. Is this something to worry about? I mean i was able to clear the code despite this non-stop, by doing the 2 clockwise-counterclockwise turns to reset it. So now, i have 0505, which is all fine, and the car starts fine, but that dial has no stop on it in the counter-clockwise direction. Is this okay?

By the way i got a 98 maxima.

Yeah, that's no big deal, really. I usually don't even go to the counter-clockwise stop when checking my ECU. I think it's just the clockwise stop that needs to happen for engine diagnosis to occur, then twist it back so it's not against the stop and you should be fine.

Don't forget to return the screw back to the fully clockwise (?) position, or your ECU will stay in diagnostic mode.

Ummmm

To the fully clockwise position???

No, the counterclockwise position.

You turn to clockwise, and then back, to make it spit out codes.

Right???/
Or am i missing something here?

If your screw isn't stopping one way there's something wrong. You probably turned too hard and broke it.

... checking FSM ...

You are correct - fully counter-cloclwise. I always forget; that's why I had ? next to it.

I actually left it clockwise one time and my idle RPMs were down to about 400!!!

Yeah when you leave it fully clockwise the engine runs pretty rough. The way I reset the ECU after reading the codes is turn it all the way clockwise, turn on the car and turn in counter-clockwise.
