do it yourself stereo installation for my precious...
Hey guys,
I'm considering installing a new stereo system in my max myself (deck, amp, speakers, etc.) but I haven't a clue how to disassemble my max interior without making a mess. I'm really **** about clean wiring and I've done plenty of installations on less important cars. (if you know what I mean)
If I scratch my max interior or jack up something in the process I'm gonna have to kill something...
Have any of you had any luck putting your own system in? If so, do you have any do's and don'ts? I'm especially interested in powering the amp without dimming the lights and blowing fuses. Is the factory alternator enough to handle the following specs?
The amp I'm looking at is a 640W Kenwood that has a built in cross-over. That will be pushing a box with 2 12's (in the trunk) and two other pairs of speakers... (6x9s in back and a few tweeters up front)
Does anyone have a good reference for how the pros hook up systems?
-Thanks.

guide to remove front speakers
guide to remove rear speakers
heres a tip i wished i done the first time.. when removing the deck.. unplug everything and take it all the way out. dont just talk it half way out like i did and scratched up some of the interior. i dont know about the alternator beign strong enough because my headlights dim when i turn my system up and i just have an amp connecting to 2 10's in the back alone.

here are the instructions for the head unit http://carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalNisMax2.htm as for the dimming of your lights, invest in an optima battery and throw a capacitor in your trunk for good measure.

You really shouldn't need a capacitor for anything less than 1000W.
I put one amp under the passenger seat and the other in the trunk. The whole process was fairly straight-forward; especially if you have done some of that type of work before. The wiring goes under the carpet very well. Just take your time and be careful.
