I looked at my plugs at 52k and they looked liked new.

Whats the usual wear rate?

 

They should be replaced at 60k. I changed mine at around 100k and they looked pretty bad...I don't think the previous owner had changed them. Even if they will last that long you should really replace them at 60k. It's not that hard. If your looking to save some money and feel you can do it yourself, then replace them with coppers (they last 1/2 as long but cost 1/6 as much...$10 vs $60). If you want me to point you to some writeups just ask.

 

i just changed my stock platinums at about 77k. Everything looked fine except for a little bit of white deposits.

 

I forgot which TV show it was on, but they said that if the plugs are looking brand new after a while it means the engine is running lean/rich, one of the two. There should be a bit of white build up on them. I think this was on HPTV or 2 guys garage. I always read that if there is any build up on them it means something is wrong. Oh well.

That's for race engines. Wouldn't that be different than a daily driven car? If we drove our daily drivers like race cars the plugs would probably look a lot different since the a/f ratios are different at higher revs.

Well, I think that the 60k mile replacement for the plats is too soon.
I didn't replace mine until 90k, and they were still not all burnt up.
I also think the copper NGK's can last longer than 30k.
Maybe it is just me being paranoid of these companies, along with every company, trying to rip consumers off.
Maybe it is just from my experience and observation.
Anyone else agree?
