Try a higher octane fuel. If you use regular this happens more. Regular fuel + "performance" driving = rotten egg smell (most of the time)

That is so, so wrong.

The rotten egg smell is usually indicative of a failing catalytic converter. They can, and do, go bad/wear out.

Hmm. I'm not going to get into an argument but the rotten egg smell is caused by fuel that does not ignite properly and/or has a higher sulfur content. It causes heat in the exhaust to build up and the element in the catalytic converter begins to get extremely hot and give off that stink.

The cat may be failing even though this would cause at least one sensor to trip and the car would fail inspection. It's a 96 this guy is talking about so it MAY be the cat itself. But the rotten egg smell is caused by heat and sulfur. The higher octane fuels ignite at a lower temperature (lower exhaust temperature) and have less sulfur.

You know.. before you tell someone to replace a cat... why not just do something simple and change fuel brands/grades? This guy relies on you for good information.

Thats like you going to the doctor because you have a headache and he says you probably have a brain tumor.

The front O2 sensor being bad can cause the engine to run too lean or too rich. Either of those might overheat the cat, releasing the stink egg smell.

Get rid of the cat and replace it with a "straight pipe" (just a pipe the same length as the cat, but just like any other part of the exhaust). If your state has emissions testing this woud make you not pass...It will be cheaper though, and might give a few HP.
