Custom Hybrid Intake...link down

Well right now I have a stillen HAI...but I've heard that a custom midpipe will give me more benefits. I checked the FAQ's but the link to the How To is down. Any one know of any mirrors or have the page saved?

No it won't. Stick with the stock resonator and be done with it. The mid pipe just gives it more noise. If you want you can buy a smooth, rubber coupler somewhere and replace the accordion crap by the TB. It should smooth out the air-flow a bit.

I'd imagine there would be some sort of benefit since your replacing something that restricts the air flow to a smooth flowing pipe...same concept with the y-pipe. Even so, I can always make it, try it out and compare which is better and either keep it or put the resonator back

Actually you'll lose low-end power since the mid-pipe is wider that the resonator and that would cause the air velocity to decrease. Some crap like that.

I have run a midpipe on my car before and I loved it. That was until I put the stock resonator back on. I could tell a HUGE difference with the stock resonator. The midpipe worked ok during the winter, but when it started to get warmer it started to lag pretty bad.

I think everyone will pretty much agree that the custom midpipe is more of an intake “sound” mod than anything else…

and ur throttle response will be better with stock midpipe...

Exactly...thats why I took the midpipe off. The throttle lagged real bad...

Any sound difference if you remove the resonator box that links up just past the opening of the intake scoop(the one that resides under the battery tray), and/or that little resonator box that is on 95-96 maximas(bolted on where the intake scoop turns down and then right to enter the air box)? I have a k&n panel filter and don't want to add an intake at this time. I would like to see if I can increase sound without spending money, but I am not ready to hack my air box(I want to keep the intake charge as cool as possible.

this all may be true, but in my opnion the midpipe gives very nice gains in the mid to upper power level... its basically all about where you want you're power to appear most.

I'd like to see a dyno of a cone filter used with the stock resonator to see what the mid to high end looks like. With the full stock intake assembly, I would think that the ram up to the resonator is the restrictive part of the intake setup which doesn't allow the HP gain of the aftermarket midpipe in the mid to high RPM range. But with the cone connected to the resonator, the loss should be minimal.

The most restrictive part of the intake is the tiny throttle body. The MAF, resonator and accordian thingy are all about 3" in diameter.

Yeah but what about the entrance of the ram at the lip of the hood?
