Switch for heated seats
Hello everyone,
On the way to work this morning I hit the switch for the drivers heated seats and noticed the orange light didn't come on. The passengers heated seat light switch works fine. The heat still comes on for the drivers side and works fine. Is it a pain in the a** to replace the switch? Should I just live with it? I just bought this 99' SE in pristine condition and would like to keep it that way.
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks in advance.
Edward

No its not a pain. You'll just need another switch and your regular tools to raise up the console. Or i think you can pull it out and then unplug the wire without removing the console.I don't know i never did mine that way.

How strange, I had the EXACT same thing happen. The drivers switch does not light but the seat does heat up. The passengers side works with no problems! I too am interested in which LED you used to repair the switch! I read somewhere that the switch runs about $45! YIKES!

I got some 3mm leds off ebay (with resistors). You could go to radio shack and pick up the stuff you need too.
I took them out of the console, pried them open, took out the stock bulb and orange filter, then soldered in the led and resistor. LED's work only one way so if it doesnt light up than you have the LED backwards. Not to tough really, its good to have a set of pick tools or small flat head screwdrivers when taking them apart.

i suggest *(i'm not sure but that makes sense to me)* taking the cupholder out & see if you can get through to to the switches from underneath & just pop them out...
try it & let me know (i've never done it but I think that's how you take them out)

Guys,
I just repaired my heated seat switches. Thought you might like to hear how I did it. My problem was that the switches worked but the the lamp did not light up.
I replaced the burnt out lamp with one that I got from Radio Shack. It was a 12v 60 mA Micro Lamp #7219 part # 272-1092 package of 2 for $1.49 plus tax. This lamp is the same diameter as the OEM lamp, but just a little shorter ~1.5mm. Didn't know what the current rating of the OEM lamp was, because both of mine were shot.
To remove the switches, unbutton the emergency break handle boot. From here you should be able to reach back and just push the switches up and out. Unplug the switches and have something to tie the plugs to so you don't drop them back down into the console. Once you have the switch out you can check that it workes with a multimeter. Disassemble the switch with a flat screwdriver and replace the lamp. This should be pretty straight foward. A pick and small pair of needle nose pliers are helpful. Also, this is a lamp not a led so direction does not matter.
So far this is working for me. Let me know if you have any questions.
