Dead silence when trying to start then BOOM

I have a 1997 Max- here is the problem. sometime when you put the key in the ignition and turn it will start right up.
Other times you put the key in and turn the light comes on but nothing happens and if you flip the key a few times or if you turn the key quickly with a bit of stength she will also start right up.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Sounds like your ignition switch is going bad. Do you have a heavy key chain? Alot of weight hanging there can damage the ignition switch.

I replaced my ignition switch not too long ago. The difference between a good and bad one is night and day. It takes about 15 minutes to replace and costs about $38.

have the same problem in mine. right now i'm far too poor to worry about such things. just turn the key really quick like i'm trying to sneak up on the ignition switch and it usually works. when i got it i had to sit in the car for 10 minutes trying to get it to turn on only to have it randomly work sometime.
