Hole in my muffler? !@$^%*
Hey guys, just recently there has been this sound coming from my muffler (at least it sounds like its from my muffler), sounds like there is a hole in it, but it stops after 2-grand rpm...doesn't make any sense! if there was a hole wouldn't the sound be there all the time?? i looked under my car and the muffler looks fine, no holes..im stumped. any thoughts?? thanks in advance -

You don't hear the noise at high speeds because of at least 2 factors:
1. Increased road noise
2. Less turbulent air flow thru the exhaust, since more exhaust gas is being pushed out, they then to go thru the "smoothest path" which is less turbulent hence less noise.
In time the hole will get bigger and the noise will get louder. You should check the point behind the muffler where the exhaust pipe sticks out - i.e. towards the b-pipe. At the weld between the muffler body and the pipe itself is a very common place to rust and develop holes. I just changed mine
