Concern and possible problem concerning VB Mod Stage II
Ok here's the deal I've had this mod on my car for approx. 1 week. This is what I have noticed, occasionally the car will shift quite harsh, even from 3rd to 4th, but only when I'm downshifting from 4th the 3rd (i.e. using OD button). Now this is my main concern sometimes say when the car hasn't been running for a while (i.e. over 30 mins) the car will NOT shift has hard as it does when the car is warmer (i.e. 30 mins or more). Now would this pertain to the fluid being cooler? The tranny shifts, both upshifts, and downshifts absolutely wonderfully, that's not the issue. The issue I am concerned about pertains to the harshness of the shifts. Can anyone provide any insight. And also I do notice that more throttle, equals harder shifts, and when I manually shift at high RPMS I chirp my 18's!!! haha, but I concluded that more throttle responses results in more line pressure from the tranny, and less slippage of the clutch bands which in turn would equal the harder, firmer, faster shifts. Am I correct on that conclusion? Any input would be greatly appreciated thanks!

i have the stage 2 also. make sure the 3-4 isnt really the lockup shift. I used to think it was my 3-4 that was hitting hard but it turns out its the TQ lockup. No one else seems to have this problem and its driving me nuts trying to fix it. Also the 1-2 can be a extremely harsh sometimes cant it. Either way take your car out for a ride and see if its the lockup cause i dont feel the 3-4......note sometimes it goes from 3 to lockup. And if it is your lockup let me know how you fix it cause im about to buy a new damn tranny. also i do not know of anyone else in my area with a VB so i cant even sit in someone elses car to see if its normal.

Clarify what you mean by lockup, do you mean as it won't up**** or downshift? My car upshifts and downshifts the way it's supposed to, I can be in fourth hit the OD OFF button the tranny will downshift to 3rd gear, or I can be in 3rd gear and shift fine into 4th gear. So what do you mean exactly when you say lockup?

lets say your cruising at 30 you see a slight rpm drop....so you know OD has kicked in. well my TQ will lock up and feels a bit like the 1-2 shift. lockup is only supposed to happen around 40-45ish i kept mistaking it as the OD shift when it really wasnt since a lot of the times it would go from 3rd to lockup. I started realizing this when i was on the highway and i would take off OD and it would almost slam into 3rd. which is the same problem i see your having. let me know if you can figure it out or what jeff has to say. i called them and all they said to me was rebuild. It too far for me to get down there on the weekdays.

Ok dude I still don't understand what you are saying. My car never drops the RPMs below 1500RPMs when shifting. I wouldn't say it slams into 3rd gear, I notice my 3-4 4-3 shift isn't that harsh at all it feels a lil harsher than stock. So clarify in details what you mean by locking up, do you mean that it no longer shifts???

we only have a 3 speed auto with an OD lockup feature.....basically when you get to a high enough speed the OD kicks in which most people think is 4th gear. My car still goes from 3 to OD hard and im still not sure if its normal but its been over a year and the car is still running so i assume its all good.

The hard shifts and the points at which you feel them are perfectly normal. There was a Stage 1 VB, but I don't think it even begins to meet the enthusiast's needs. I've never had one. You may want to try it, but you may find you still have the luxury "slush" in shifting the VB mod is designed to rid you of...
