What alot of you may not realize is that the smooth feeling you're experiencing when you've changed your oil is probably because you took out dirty oil and put in new oil. If it was synthetic or regular oil, the car would be smoother. You could put in generic store brand 5W30 oil and the car will feel smooth for the 1st couple of days. That's what I've experienced . . . .not with the generic oil, though

Secondly, there's always this hoopla about "preparing your car" for synthetic. Why?? I've had regular oil, pure synth, and now I'm settled on semi-synthetic. No preps between changes at all. Just dropped the oil and added new stuff. Is my car complaining?? Nope. Drinking excessive amounts of oil? Nope.

Lastly, the only way you can really apreciate the benifits of synthetic is over the long haul, not after the 1st 500 miles after you put it in. Synth oil will stay in spec for much longer. After 3K miles of regular, my car doesn't feel as smooth, but at 3K miles with synth, my car is still as smooth as when it was 1st put in.

Here's my 2 cents on Mobil 1 (Tai Sr.) I've used Mobil 1 since it's release oh maybe 20 yrs ago. Never had a problem going back and forth from regular petroleum based oils. In the begining, they used to advertise you can go 25,000 miles between changes as long as you changed the filter. This is because the damn oil does not break down. It gets dirty from the by-products of combustion, that's why you change the filter. I've gone up to 12k between oil changes and one of my BWW's I had had 170K on the dial, didn't burn a drop. It's true, 3K mile changes are to put money in the oil manufacturers pocket. A good syth can go 6 to 12k between changes. I've done it regularly and never experienced excessive wear. It's a leap of faith to do it in the begining, but I beleive in preservation of capital.(my capital)
