has anyone replaced their knock sensor on their own?

Im going to have to replace my knock sensor soon and I need to be saving money whereever I can. Is it a bad idea to buy a knock sensor on ebay (instead of $150 at the dealer) and install it myself? and how long would it take?

I don't think anyone in the history of maxima.org has ever replaced their own KS.

or if you search or look in the stickies you might find otherwise

Yes, you can. Bought mine on eBay got 92 shipped. If you never did it before but have a inspiration to do it and learn something.... weekend should suffice.

Just make sure you (or even better somebody else) can fit their hand in there before you start taking the KS out.

I replaced mine myself also, it wasn't hard at all, BUT you have to be patient. A swivel head adapter and a small ratched will do the job. I also found a small open end wrench to be invaluable. I ended up with a couple of bloody bruises but it was all worth it. Took about 45 min.

Its pretty easy. I can do it in about 15 minutes. Don't pay someone to do it, all you need is a box end wrench and some petroleum jelly.
