Getting an ECU

I have a manual transmission. I want to get the JWT ECU upgrade. Will my car be able to run if I get an ECU for an automatic? I just found one in a junk yard for real cheap so if it will work to allow me to my ECU upgraded then I'll buy it. Thanks

Yeah I remember Neal saying something about the transmission not being a big matter. But of course that was when he was trying to sell his ecu...

There was a thread exactly like this a couple of days ago.

1. JWT will only upgrade a 95 or 96 ecu.
2. An auto ecu will work just fine in a 5 speed car, but you will get CELs related to the missing solenoid valves, and maybe some other CELs.
3. A 95 or 96 ecu will work in Maximas of other years, but you may get a CEL for something or other.
4. A JWT ecu may give you a CEL just because. Mine gives me a CEL related to the egr system, even though there is no problem. My stock ecu gives me no CEL related to egr.

If I get a CEL that's fine. I would just be using the automatic transmission ECU on my car until I got my ECU back from JWT. I'm just making sure it won't stop me from driving my car while my original ECU is being programmed.

It will work just fine, I've been using an auto 98 ECU in my car for months. I've even dyno'd with it back like a year and a half ago. You'll get a ton of codes related to auto transmission stuff, but the car will run and make the same power as it would with your stock ECU. The only drivability issue you'll notice is that the RPMs will blip about 100-150rpm up from idle for about 2 seconds when you shift into or out of neutral, and as you are coasting down to a stop and have the clutch pedal depressed, the car will idle at about 1200 until you come to a full stop, at which time the car will idle at the normal 650-700rpm. Nothing that affects driveability or performance in any way, shape, or form.
