How do you tell when your water pump needs to be replaced? Can it make noises? Also it is expensive?

 

It will leak coolant a little at a time. abou 300 including parts and labor. No noises when mine went out.

 

MIne leaked coolant as well. Honestly it isn't to hard to do at home, there are some write up in one of the stickies. As far as parts go I spent 80 for a new pump, new thermostat, and new hoses. THe only that sucks is if you have big hands, or hands at all getting the chain tenssioner out is a major PITA!! The job took me about 4 hours, 3 of those were get that little thing in and out, but hey I saved like 200+ dollars, got scars on my hands, and felt better about my self

 

so the water pump will start leaking anti frezze on the floor?

 

yes, but usually not that much. i am changing mine this weekend.

 

Mine i loose about 10-12 ounces in a month or two. Very little barely noticable. It needs to be replaced but not that bad. I think my waterpump gasket is bad but not sure. I forgot to mention my car has 165,XXX , miles on the original engine.

 

mine has over 230k, original engine but now replacing head gaskets.
