2K 5 spd in 98? Possible?

I just wanted to verify that a 2k or 2k1 5 spd tranny would fit in my 98. I need to replace it due to the diff bearings going out. Is it true that the 2k on trannies have less chance of the diff bearings failing? Thanx

I believe the 2K tranny bolts into your VQ30DE

There was rumor of needing new axles but it turns out you could use your own axles, according to a few members anyways...

Dont take my word for it, what do I know, I have an automagic

You only need axles if switching to the LSD model. I don't believe any one ever said that the open dif needs new axles it was probably just misunderstood like every other post here on the org. They are the same trans, same part number, albeit the 2k-2k1 hav stronger 3rd gear, so I don't see how you'd need different axles

sober you have my rims lol never thought another org member would have g35 coupe rims. I painted mine gun metal and it looks alot better than stock...

Thanx for the info, i was pretty sure that it would bolt on but really wanted to check. Yea lsd trannies are the only ones that need a driver side axle. I was going to do that but all the ones (3 on car-parts.com/ infinite i30/ none for ae) had a lot of miles on them so I guess I'll just get a 2k or 2k1 tranny then. What about the diff bearing? Are they shimmed right?

Whoa, I never thought I would see another maxima with G35 wheels either
Let me ask you something, what size tires do you have on them and do you have any rubbing problems?

currently i have 245/40/17 in the rear, 225/45/17 front. I measure the rims and the rears are 8.5 and fronts are 8.0 so u can actually go 245/40/17 and probably not rub in the front. I had 235/50/17 with the rears in the front when i first got the rims and it rubed only on u turns but my plastic in the wheel well was broken... next summer i am gonna go 245/40/17 all the way around

to end the rumor, i have a 2k 5 speed in my car, its exactly the same as 4th gen trannies just stronger gears from what i hear. 3rd gear atleast. I recommend 2k's because they have less mileage normally and stronger gears. U can use same axles and everything.

Interesting, I have 225/50/17 in the front and 235/50/17 in the rear, with my subs in the trunk I would rub in the rear, never turning in the front.. Took the subs out, I havnt rubbed since.. Im hoping with 235/45's in the rear it wouldn't rub anymore...

The offset is killer, I believe 33 in the rear and 30 in the front.. Something like that.

They look sweet tho =) They look nice in gunmetal too, good job doing that.

thanx, for some reason i dont rub with the 245s in the back even with 3 10s and an amp in the truck plus a car load of peeps, which made me think of getting 255s in the back (for a slight moment) but it wouldnt do anything but slow me down. What supsension are u running, i have prgress w/ agx set on 5 so its pretty stiff in the back...
Yea the offset is a little wild and I think it slow us down noticibly because i swap my rims over to my friends max cuz i had autocross tires on and he wanted to run that day while I had his stocks, we raced from a line afterwards and I would pull on him the way he usually he pulls on me(we both have the same mods)....
