How fast can you replace a Knock Sensor?
I've done it so many times for friends (thankfully never on my car), that today - not counting prep time, I did it in:
25 seconds!

It's all about a flashlight, 12" extension, elbow piece, 12mm socket - and the secret - electrical tape strategically used to hold the bolt in place and then to attach the knock sensor to the assembly....attach harness to assemly and slide it in there.....
Tighten down the KS and the tape pops loose.
No screwed up hands, no mess.
Ant - if you wanna drive to Seattle I'll do it - it will only take 1/2 a minute.

wow that's fast! I'm gonna see how fast I can do it for the first time next week hehehe. I'm not one of those supermechanics who open the hood and know exactly what they are doing and all but... well I know where it is I'm just not sure if it will be easily reachable but uhm... if you happen to come to Canada, and pass by a city named Sherbrooke (in Quebec) send me a e-mail LOL
great job!
great job!

Fed Spec.
here is a small write-up without pics for anyone who is interested....
To remove the KS you don't need the tape. Just use a short socket on and elbow type socket (bendy bit, as some call it) and a 12" extension.
Without the ratchet attached, manuever the extension with the socket on it in there and get it to sit on top of the knock sensor. then twist it a little with your hands just to make sure you've got a decent grip on it.
Then attach the ratchet and twist hard to break the bolt loose. once it's turnable by hand, remove the ratchet again and carefully unbolt the KS with your hand using the extension.
Use a long telescoping magnet to hold on to the Knock Sensor and bolt while you pull on the harness attached to it. Then remove the knock sensor from the harness when you've got it out. It's attached with a little metal clip - you'll need a small flathead to get the clip out.
Replace the Knock Sensor and attach the new one to the harness, re-attaching the clip to hold it secure.
Then take the bolt that held the knock sensor in and stick it in the end of your socket. use 2 pieces of electrical tape over the socket hole to make a sort of (||) type pattern. This ensures the bolt does not fall out of the socket when you are putting it in.
Then put the assembly you just made through the Knock Sensor. Tape the outside of the knock sensor to the outside of the socket. This keeps the KS from dropping off while you are putting it back in there.
Then again without the ratchet attached and a flashlight if needed, guide it back in there until the bolt lines up with the hole. Using your hands twist until the screw threads catch.
Once they catch, use your hand to hold tension on the harness. This keeps the KS from spinning as you tighten down the bolt.
Tighten by hand as far as you can, attach ratchet and then torque it down.
Done.
