installed Cattman catback...not happy

Doesn't sound bad but but the outer tip is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Also why are you comparing yourself to APEX or greddy?
It's also kinda funny that WARPSPEED has the same tip available for their mufflers.

Greddy chooses to use much cheaper mild steel for all the tubing (just sold one of our catbacks to someone whose Greddy had rusted out), they use a smaller diameter tubing (about 2.3") and the walls of the tubing are thinner stock, and they use a tiny resonator that's basically cosmetic.
Those specifications are unacceptable to us, but obviously doing it our way costs more money. Also consider the ecomomies of scale - we make our 25 at a time, Greddy makes hundredsn at a time.

Ha ha ha, I read your email first and already wrote a reply that reflected a sudden and dramatic loss of patience, but now I won't send it.
Glad to see that you've been able to reflect on the other positive attributes of our catback. Its not BS, they're the best. We made the tips too long for 95/96s on a dozen mufflers after making hundreds just right, but in terms of sound, power, fitment and durability, they can't be beat and it sounds like you're realizing that.
Let me know (preferably by direct email) how you resolve the tip length. Its important to be selective about who does what may seem like a simple task. Its not complicated, but it can be screwed up and you don't want a result you're not proud of. Look until you find somebody who is as old as your Dad, has many years of experience and acts like he gives a sh*t. Its not required, it just maximizes the chances of a favorable outcome.

you know what, sound is not that bad. and also to add, cumalot, it was ok to actually let us know how it looked like and that he did not like the tip design, but also wrong that he was bashing on cattman. but good to hear you guys resolved everything.
Brian, keep up the good work.

+1 for cattman
I must say after reading this thread that cattman's customer service is awesome. I would not hesitate to buy another cattman product when the time (and money) comes.
And that exhaust sounds great from what I hear in the video, I dont understand how you're not satisfied with the sound. What are the expected HP gains from this catback (without y-pipe or intake). . 5HP?

[For those who wonder how the Greddy and Apexi came up, they were compared to the Cattman catback by others a ways back in the thread, I didn't raise the topic.]
Looks like each of us is both right and wrong. the last time I put a magnet on Greddy tubing it stuck like glue (s/s will not, or just barely), but I went to the Greddy site and the specs have changed since the SP (which did have mild steel). It is now stainless. Mea culpa.
On the other hand, the website confirms that they use 60mm tubing, which is as I noted, a little over 2.3" and not 2.5". Likewise, the last time I measured Greddy tubing it was a metric size of 60mm (ID) and that is not 2.5". The cross sectional area of our tubing is 11% greater than the Greddy.
In terms of tubing wall thickness (may sound like a small issue, but has a major role in thermal containment and resistance to stress factures), the Greddy website indicates that they use tubing with a 1.5mm wall thickness. Polishing unavoidably reduces that to about 1.25-1.3 mm. We use 16 gauge stainless tubing, which indicates a wall thickness of 0.065", or 1.65mm which is 25% thicker than the polished Greddy tubing.
My assessment of the Greddy resonator - as important as the muffler in determing the volume and quality of the sound - remains the same, it is largely ceremonial.

Sending your way s0ber. Thanks again.
Btw, you can't really hear the rumble of the exhaust that much because it's only audible at low rpm. I manually shift the car in 1st then 2nd. Punch it in 1st at about 4500 rpm, that's why you can't hear the rumble. Sounds pretty good actually. It's just at low rpm, there's a very deep rumble.

Yeah, I know that now. I'm pleased with how it sounds and the quality. Just need to get it flush with the bumper, and it would look completely different. Whenver s0ber post the two pics I took, you guys will see it doesn't look bad at all from a far.

Yes I am an auto. Even so, I manually shifted the car. I tried leaving it Drive, but then you guys won't see the effect of the 7200 rpm redline.

I think your exhaust sounds fine. The only reason it may seem loud is because you have the camera right next to the exhaust. Also it doesn't even stick out that far and the double wall isn't even all the noticeable unless you're really close. I could understand if it looked like the Megan racing Muffler but it doesn't. Cattman is an awesome supplier, I'm glad that he is willing to try new things for a car that is decreasing in numbers.
And I'm a second for the exhaust. It is different but it looks good.
Try to take some pictures where the exhaust isn't right in our face.

I thought of another option I could go with fixing the tip sticking out problem. What if I put on a 97-99 rear bumper, would that take care of it? That is the only part I haven't done with my 97-99 front and rear end conversion.

Have you even read the whole thread? I already apologized to Brian and told everyone I jumped the gun. And who the heck said I'm trying to be like Ceasar? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. Just because both me and Ceasar got the Cattman headers and catback, I'm trying to be like him? ROFLMAO! Read the whole thing before you open your mouth.

The piping is 2.5", but I haven't measure the tip. It does look good from far away. As long as I can get the tip to fit flush with the bumper, then it wouldn't look as bad up close. The sound is pretty good too. Like I said before, you can hear the deep rumble of the muffler at low rpm, about 3k rrpm and under. Even so, it's not as bad I first made it out to be. Definitely not ricey sounding at all. At higher rpm, you can't hear the muffler that much. You hear more of the headers I think at high rpm. I bet it would sound even better with the JWT cams. I almost certain I'm going to put them back in sometime next week. I even ordered the JWT valve springs/retainers. So the JWT cams are going back in!

u need an angle pic. From the pics above even if the tip stock out 10 meters u couldnt tell. A far away angle pic would do both parties (those that like the tip and those that dont) justice. Similar pic to where the first video was, just further back.
BTW, thats the first time i seen a maxima rev past 6600 rpm . What mods do u have? i would tell by the way your rpm's moved that u arent boosted....?

Mecc: I got Cattman headers, JWT ECU, and now Cattman exhaust. No, I'm not boosted. I used to be. I know my car isn't very fast, but I think it's still not too bad for a NA automagic.
I'll try to get some better angle shots later.

omg that exhaust sounds SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. IMO its quite as hell or maybe in reality is loud and the tip size looks small from the back, i think stillen muffler is a perfect "looking" muffler. but i do agree that the inner wall of the muffler is and from what i understand, it shouldnt stick out that much on a 97-99 maxima correct?
if so, Brian C Catts should be expecting my order in a few months
