installed Cattman catback...not happy

I got the Cattman catback in yesterday and installed it today. First of all, the fitment is perfect. It looks very nice. Now for the complaints:

1. the tip is too big. If any of you saw Ceasars video of the Cattman exhaust, it looks like that, except it has an extra tip over it. Looks like it has two tips. Thus, it makes the tip look huge. WTH? Why does it look different from Ceasars?

2. the tip sticks out too much, about a good 1 1/2 in out from the bumper.

3. it's too loud. It's louder than Cearsars. I have the same Cattman headers and exhaust as he does. For whatever reason, mine seem to be louder. It doesn't really sound like I got headers until I hit the higher rpm.

I wish I had a digicam to let you guys see what I mean. I'm not happy to say the least. Especially after spending over $600 for it. I should have went with the SP2. With the loudness and the huge exposed tip, I look the typical ricers around my area. That's probably the worst thing you can say to me...looking like a ricer. I don't know what to do right now. I certainly don't want to keep it like it is. One route I could go is to get a 5th gen muffler and have it weld onto the Cattman bpipe. Initially I want to just get the bpipe, I should have went that route instead. Not happy, not happy at all!

For an example of how the tip should have look like, I got this off Cattman's website:

The tip doesn't look like that at all. Like I said, looks like it has an extra tip over that.

It's probably prototyped on a 1997-1999. The bumper is about 1" further out. I hate when the tip sticks out of the bumper too.

My SP2 is perfectly flush, but since my rear end is different than a maxima's I don't know if that would be the case for you.

Tip replacement is pretty inexpensive to do at a muffler shop.

Loudness is pretty much a given with an aftermarket catback, especially one without a resonator in the b-pipe. I'm not sure you would have been any happier with the SP2 in that regard. I think my Apexi WS is too loud, for that matter, and it's one of the quieter ones on the market. A 5th gen muffler ought to work, though.

I'm sorry you are not pleased, although it would have been nice if you'd given us a chance to correct misimpressions and/or resolve the problem before slamming us on the .org.

As far as being louder than other 95-99 catbacks we sell, that may be your perception, but that is not the case. The resonator and muffler components are exactly the same as the exhaust that Ceasar's Chariot had on his car. If you're comparing this to Ceasar's sound clips, then you should know that you can never compare sound clips to the real thing - how would you know how loud it really is between the volume level of the recording, the volume level on your sound card, and the volume level of your speakers? If you actually heard Chris's car in person, then that was at least a month ago since they left for NZ on 31 August and an accurate comparison would require putting the cars side by side.

The tips are a new double-walled design we are trying. Some have been pleased with them, its a matter of taste I suppose. I'm very willing to discuss a financial arrangement that would allow you to get the tip trimmed back a little if you can find a competent shop to do it. Let's discuss that via email.

Once you guys see the pics, you'll see how bad the tip is.

Well, what do you guys think?

Brian, I don't see how anyone can be please with this. Look at how far the tip sticks out. And the double walled tip? Looks more like a tip over another tip. I don't see how the tip can be "trimmed". Probably need to get the whole tip hacked off and get a better fitting/smaller tip weld on.

Yikes... that tip looks horrible, and sticks out too much.. My SP1 the tip only sticks out about 1/4"... Not digging the tip at all... That exhaust looks like it was designed for a 97-99 app... not 95-96.

That does suck Mike. That exhaust tip looks very funky. I have seen some of those civics around here with that. Not saying that is looks horrible on the Civics. But on a car almost twice the size of it I could understand your pain. I guess you were the test pilot for Cattaman. That is good customer service that they will help fix your problem. I was still thinking of getting a cattaman cat-back because Im going to need some better air flow with the intake. Cant wait to get it.

I think working with Cattman to resolve the issue is the best course of action. If you guys can come to an agreement both people make out on the positive side. Cumalot ends up with an exhaust he likes, and Cattman ends up with another satisfied customer and another example of his excellent customer service. Cattman has always taken care of the max community through both products and service, give him a chance at least

yea i got just got a cattman exhaust (same one) and the problem is cuz its for 95-99, and like someone above said, the exhasut is an inch longer for the 97-99 and since it is made to fit those also, it doesnt fit perfectly.....i hope things get resolved.

IMO its not too loud, but then again im comparing it w/an old greddy sp1 that had a few leaks lol

I didn't suggest that you should be satisfied with the length of the tip, I agree that something can be done about that and will be glad to work with you on a reasonable solution. The design of the tip itself is another matter, and it is a matter of preference.

If you want to send me a direct email, then we can work this out on a more detailed level, but this is not the place for that.

Ok, I recorded a video. However, it's about 19mb. I don't know how to compress it. Plus, Yahoo doesn't allow sending any file over 10mb. Now what?

After further review, it doesn't sound too bad. If I could find someway to send the 19mb file, you'll see what I mean. Now if I could fix the ugly/exposed tip, I'm set.
