HELP! Max won't start. ECU codes 0403 & 0101

My 97 Max won't start and the codes I get are 0403 (Engine Knock sensor) and 0101 (Camshaft Position Sensor). I know where to locate the Engine Knock sensor but where is the Camshaft Position Sensor? How should I proceed?

It is on the engine front cover ... when looking at the oil cap, work your way down...it's right there...(i'll snap a pic for you later on)

this may sound stupid but it is probably your starter that is malfunctioning... what does the camshaft position sensor have to do with the starter?

According to the Factory Service Manual, if you get this code and your ending DOESN'T start... you should look into the electrical system (starting system to be exact)...

and when I looked at that, it points to the starter being either bad or malfunctioning... (fixable I guess if you want to take it apart)

ALSO: the knock sensor code is probably just showing up because of the camshaft position sensor...so don't go buying a new KS just yet... fix this first & check the codes to see if your KS is showing up then...if it is then replace... but chances are that it will disappear (it likes to do that)

it will turn over but it won't engage the fly wheel... (therefore it's bad)

how many miles you got on the max???

oh and don't forget to let us know if it actually WAS the starter when you get it fixed.

I had this same problem, exactly. I was told by many org members that my starter was going out. My ECU was showing camshaft sensor. I replaced the sensor and it has been good as new. The camshaft sensor throws of the timing of the starter somehow. I picked up a new camshaft sensor from NAPA for 53 bucks and it took 2 minutes to replace it.

This sounds like the cheapest place to start, with the camshaft position sensor.

Thanks

No problem. Many people think that there starter is going out but most of the time, its a sensor in the electrical system throwing things off
