Bumpy ride, suspect shocks.

Hi ,

I bought a 99 Maxima GLE at 45K miles 1 year back .

I am having a very bumpy ride compared to a Camry or a Honda .
Is this normal or should I worry about the shocks?

I love my maxima but am starting to get irritated by the bumpy ride.

Are there any after market shoks that will handle better ? Is there any pneumatic suspenstion option available.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, your Max will never swallow bumps quite as well as a Camry or Accord.

But, you can get some aftermarket struts that will smooth out the ride due to stronger than OEM rebound damping. Your two best options for use with the stock springs are the Tokico HP and the KYB GR2 models. Both can be had for less than $300 per set.

Check the 'net and eBay for good prices.

Tokico HP's ride much smoother and softer then the GR2's.

Worn out shocks will typically exhibit harshness and bounce when they are worn because the springs are not adequately dampened. The fronts are struts and will typically last a bit longer than the rear shocks.

If you want the ultimate in ride control and adjustment, consider Koni or Tokico Illumnias. Keep in mind they come at a great expense though ($450+ a set).
