JWT cams....good idea????

Hey yall, i have a 95 maxima with y-pipe back exhaust, short ram intake and a 75 shot of nitrous with the DR mod on my auto tranny. I was lookin at the jwt cams and was wandering what people thought on these and if anybody has any experience with these and what kind of hp gains i could possibly expect with them. Also, are they easy to install? And if anyone knows where there are any video clips, or dyno charts or anything like that on someone who has had these cams. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks

How much horsepower could i possibly expect with these cams? keep in mind i have a very unrestrictive exhaust system and the intake. And does anybody have any video clips of a car with these cams? And really 10 hours! why would it take that stinking long, heck i would think you could completely pull the engine out and then put it back in in that amount of time.

IMO, JWT should have made about 2 or 3 sets of these things for different applications.

Get vavle body and a new TC. Or do a manual swap.

As an auto the default cams that JWT sells could definately cause a problem for you since your gearing is so poor. Cumalot has them, so does Tilleys99 in his girlfriends VQ35 shortblock swapped high compression 4th gen. A few select other people who's names are escaping me right now have them as well. Cumalot is an auto like you, and he pulled them out because of the severe low end loss he felt with them. But now he says he's going to put them back in because he misses the high end gains. There are no dynos that I know of specifically before and after JWT cams.

With the nitrous he really won't have to worry about the gearing.

Yeah I got like Neal said. I know I complained about the lowend loss and didn't run such a good time at the track. However, I think the lowend loss is worth it. You can feel the highend gains even more than the MEVI IMO. I'm putting them back in next week along with the JWT valve springs/retainers. You feel the lowend loss more at the track, not really as apparent with daily driving. Without a high stall TC, getting off the line from a stop will be very weak. However, I normally don't launch off the line on the streets. If I floored the gas, it's usually from a roll. If you do that, you won't feel the lowend loss as much. That's why I decided to put them back in. Also, I'll probably get a high stall TC in the future, so that should take care of the off the line problem. The JWT cams aren't cheap, plus the install isn't exactly a piece of cake. I did the install myself, but I do have some experience with DIY projects. It took me about 10 hours to do the whole install. I think you should get a VB if you don't have one already. While it doesn't make you faster, it's going to protect your transmission.

Cumalot,

if you get the TC, dyno first. Then, have the TC matched for your powerband.

Good idea. It will probably be awhile until I get the TC though. Still I will probably get the car dyno after I put the cams back in.

He was at the track down here in AZ, but he wasn't able to run. I think he's run it once back in SC..
