Battery Replacement...
#1
I have my car in the shop after an accident, and I was told that I should have the battery replaced. I have a 98 Max SE from about March of 98, and have nothing unusual to report for battery usage. I feel like it should last longer than this... any input or battery suggestions would be appreciated, Thank You

even still...
if the battery really is low, could this be pointing to an electrical problem, or do they just die in three years just like that?... it's never needed to be jumped or used to jump another... Thanks for the input

Tell them this:
You want an optima yellow top battery for $100. No don't do that, well you could try, but I doubt they will go for it.
Just tell them you'll take car of it yourself. Throw some cables in the trunk and go on with your life. If it dies ever, jump it and then go get a new one.
Chances are you don't want the battery they will try and sell you anyways. There are better ones for similar prices incase you want to get a bigger stereo down the road.

cool
sounds like a plan... when i do need to get it replaced then, is there any benefit to going with more CAA? or should i stick with stock ratings. I know that the Maxima with cold weather package uses like 650 Cold Cranking Amps, but I don't have that package.. just wondering if it might help anything anyway

I'm in need of a new battery. I'm just wondering what other guys and gals have in there car. Just shoot me some ideas.
Here's what I have:
'97
~1400 W stereo system.
I was thinking of a yellow top, but what else is out there? Any ideas on what my Cold Cranking Amps is? I don't have the cold weather package either.

I think that my mechanic said that the stock battery has about 350CCAs. That seems really weak, but mine lasted for all these years (108K miles) with LOTS of engine-off system blasting, so I would be surprised if one died after 3 years. But you might be better off getting a good 650CCA model anyway. That's what I did a couple of weeks ago when I finally killed the stock battery. Then you're set for a long time.

maybe i'm wrong....
but i don't think that higher CCA ratings will necessarily provide a longer life... in fact, I have a feeling that the electrical system as it is, might have trouble eventually keeping the battery at par from the alternator. Anyway, all the help is appreciated, Thank You.

But with more CCAs, using accesories with the engine off and starting the car will drain the battery less, since it has more to begin with.

If you let the battery run dry, it can damage one or more of the cells. Then it won't ever hold a charge. Good thing you have a new one.
