Squeeky Muffler!!

Folks,,

Any suggestions on how to fix a squeeky muffler? My 99 Max's muffler squeeks every time I go over a bump. Just replaced my struts but the squeeking is still there. I tried getting under the car and move the muffler with my hand, there is a lot of play...it sways about 3 inches on each side. and that's where the squeeking is coming from...DO I need to replace my muffler or is there a sweet and easy remedy out ther? The muffler itself does not look too bad(just some rust from salt). Any links would be appreciated.

Please advise!
Thanks in advance!

Sandeep

Its probably the rubber hangers squeaking against the brackets... not sure of a fix - i.e. other than replacing the hangers - not sure if there is anything you can use to lube where the rubber meets the metal portion of the hanger...

I think, the rubber hangers are attached to a metal plate that is welded to the muffler for support. I'm not sure if the rubber actually detaches from the metal part that is welded to the muffler.

The rubber does detatch and can be replaced easily. Just the rubber hangers are available, e.g. these probably won't fit our cars, but give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

It might not be a rubber hanger thats squeaking - it could be one of the metal brackets (that secures the catalytic converter etc.) You really need to get under the car and figure out whats causing the squeak.

oh my god. finally someone with the same problem i have.. i originally thought it was my struts, so i changed them and the noise was still there. it was so embarrasing. i eventually found out that it was the muffler. it appeared that one of my bracketsa broke off and was rubbing against metal, thats where the squeaking came from... so i got it fixed..... 20 minutes later i have the same problem, except that its not sqeaking anymore, but now i can hear the damn muffler banging against the bottom of the car. well i brought it to another shop and the guy says oh i see whats the problem, he fixes it, i dont know what he did, but 1 dya later i have the same ****ing problem.. im so tired of this annoying banging noise..... im gonna try 1 more shop this weekend.
