Need some advice

Hi. I m extremely new to car parts and all (well I got a basic sense of some things here and there). I got an 1999 maxima se, with 87,400 miles on it and bought it with 37k miles. About 8 months ago I got the check engine light on the car and unfortunately not finding this site, and not knowing much about the car, I took it to stealership. They took a total of 2000$+ for changing 6 engine coils, egr valve, and still the engine light pops up. Their excuse was that they cant test out the computer itself cause they afraid of breaking it and costing me another 3500$ to buy new one (they reasoned my car was submerged or something under water)... Anyway I just replaced my alternator with a nissan mechanic whom lives next to me at cheap deal 88 $ for aftermarket alternator + 75$ install... Anyway so today I checked out hte codes myself and I still get that damn egr code which they were suppose to fix and some other stuff below

EGR System Hi/Low Flow
Knock Sensor
Automatic Transmission Control Unit signal to ECU

what do these mean and which should I do first?... well knock sensor i could do... but the other 2 are cryptic

I havent had any tune up done or changed transmission oil, could this be the cause?

Also I ll try to fix the starter noise fix thanks to Frank's notes. Also my mechanic said my boot was broken. Would I be able to fix it myself or would need him to do it?

Thank you all in advance...
ps need to clean throttle body icon_smile.gif too

tell nissan u are still getting the same code they were supposed to fix. if they wont go complain to nissan north america.

You could have just spend around $400 on the ingnition coils and replaced them yourself which is real simple.

is the the CV boot ur talking about thats ripped?
