Rattle and Dash Removal
Rattle and Dash Removal
As always, I cannot search. So please bear with me.
1) My 95 GXE is developing an annoying rattle in the dash, between the passenger side airbag and the right window's air vent.
I have heard many complaints from other owners as well, but so far I could not yet find a reason for the rattle.
So if you had this problem with your Max, and had it FIXED, please tell me what's wrong with it, and how to fix it.
2) How do I remove the dash (not the instrument cluster, not the stereo)? Please point me to a link containing instructions doing it.
Many thanks,

Many thanks,
i did it, its not that hard.
take out the instrument cluster, radio, glove box and the climate control and all that stuff thats in the middle.
the part thats under your steering wheel and the part thatcovers r your steering wheel
um.... the two kick panels on the bottom of each side.
your defrost vents , pop em or pull em out, there is two screws in there, one on each side
when you pull the stuff( climate control, radio, etc) there is a few screws you have to take out and i tool my a pillars off, not sure if you have to.... and the hardest part is the passenger side air bag, you need a special tool, a tamper proof torque 50 mm socket, wrench. 6 of those. and thats about it. get all the out and it comes out pretty easy, get another person to help you take it out. any q's?
mine was out already cause im working on it, but you might have to pull out the center console also.

Thank you, 95bkackmax18s.
Did you take the dash out because of the rattle problem? If so, what did you find?
How long did it take you to remove the dash? How long to put it back? Are there any tricky snap-on locations that I need to pay special attention to? I hate to break those snap-ons as they will become new sources for rattle.
Thanks again.

matter of fact, im puting my dash back in tomorrow cause i fiberglassed it and did a little custom work on it. just watch out for when you pull the deforst vents ( by the front window) just pry it evenly and take your time.( there are two screws under em)it took me a couple hours to get it out and i should have it in a little bit faster than that.
maybe the rattle can be looked at if you take out the glove box, maybe something has gotten loose, i would start with that.

For those experiencing this problem, I finally found the cause of the rattle & squeak in the dash and had it fixed.
The A pillar plastic trim is hitting the windshield (rattle) and sliding against the dash (squeak). Both happen at the bottom of the A pillar trim, where it meet the dash.
While pushing the bottom of the A pillar trim toward the outside of car, I inserted a strip of 1/8" thick tape between the trim and the dash. And that's it. Annoying rattle and squeak is gone.
