ok, i'm trying to install my set of H3 hids in my foglights on my 1999 maxima....but there is a metal shield within the housing, that came stock.....i was wondering if you guys have run into this problem and if there is anyway of removing it without cutting the **** off......

lemme know if ya got any ideas....

 

Doesn't the metal shield itself act as a ground for the lights? I remember when putting in new bulbs I didn't put the shield in properly and the light didn't work. Adjusted it and the lights worked fine.

 

no it doesn't act as any type of ground, it is a thin metal cover within the headlight housing that prevents my HID bulb from going fully into the housing

You have to take that shield off in order to mount the HID bulb..

 

how did you go about getting out of there....do i need to take apart the headlight?

 

I dont have HID fog lights... but thats what you need to do. You either dremel the shield out, or take the fog light housing apart.

Are you talking about foglights or headlights? The thread is about fogs but you keep saying headlights. Which is it?

 

the fogs, you any idea on getting rid of the shield?

 

any way of heating up the foglight housing like some do with their tails?

 

there has been attempts with no reported luck, the glass either breaks or just wont budge. get a dremel.

 

yeah right now i just bought a large metal drill bit and am drilling a perfect circle in the shield so the bulb will just slide right through....there's still gonna be a little of the shield remaining in the foglight......but its just the sides and stuff, will this hurt my HID bulb as it warms up???

its easy to grab the metal shield with need nose pliars and rip it out

 

That shield is there to reflect the light back at the housing in order to focus the beam, it'll probably be blinding. You probably should have added a few rubber washers in between the bulb and the fog light so that it would still seal up and it would give enough clearance to get the bulb all the way in.

 

instead of cutting the sheild out, just drill a 3/4" hole right into the middle of it. A friend of mine did this on his and it worked out fine. No blinding glare or anything and he was still able to adjust them.

well i managed to get the two shields off, and the light is very bright but not blinding since i'm lowered 2", but still is bright, however...........

where can i buy a replacement H3 8000K HID bulb?, i can't remember the best sites

 

bump........best place to buy replacement bulbs for your HIDs...

 

www.hid-lights.com click on accessory/parts and look for the replacment bulbs tab at the top.
