i Posted this in 3rd generation and it isnt getting any response so i am gonna give it a try here.---

--ok, my sister has a 94 maxima that is always taken care of, every scheduled change and all the tuneups.-- The car starts fine but when you put it in gear, it dies(except nuetral and Park) It just dies when it is put in 1,2,d,and r. Do you all have any ideas or suggestions on what i need to do. i have tried gassing it and then quickly putting it into gear and it just lunges forward a foot and dies. Do you all have any ideas?
I know this is a 3rd gen, but i wasnt having any luck there so i thought i would try here.
thanks

This symptom might be caused by low fuel pressure. Possible causes include an obstructed fuel filter, a weak fuel pump, or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Replace the fuel filter. If that doesn't result in an immediate improvement, make a fuel pressure test. This is done by installing a T-fitting and gauge in the rubber fuel line just downstream of the fuel filter. This is a standard diagnostic test. It is described in Chilton (page 5-3) and Haynes (page 4-3).

P.S. When you start a thread, please try to make the subject line as descriptive as possible. Engine stalls is more meaningful than Any Ideas?.

Kind of sounds tranny related to me. My dad had a similar problem with a Chrysler once. It turned out that there was a problem with the circulation of the auto tranny fluid and it would cause the engine to cut off when put into gear.

You didn't indicate if you could accelerate the engine in park or neutral. If you can, it's probably not fuel related.

Torque converter lockup

Yes! Yes! Plrod Black 95 SE has the right idea!

This symptom could be caused by a torque converter clutch which is locked up. Lockup is normal and desirable in 4th gear at highway speeds. It reduces fuel consumption and engine speed by eliminating slip in the torque converter. However, if the converter clutch fails and cannot unlock, then the engine cannot idle when the vehicle is stopped.

You could test this hypothesis by starting the engine, letting it warm up, pushing the car to 5-6 mph, and then shifting into Drive. If the converter can't unlock you will be able to drive at any speed, until you stop. At that moment the engine will stall.
