I found an auto shop quota for replacing both front CV shaft for $380(including parts, labor and tax)?
My Maxima is 1997 GXE.
Is this a rip-off?
thanks!

if they are rebuilt, parts would be around $150, and then I would say 1.5-2 hours of labor at $60/hr...yeah I think $380 is a little steep.

I just did both complete axels in my car.....cost $49 each.
Its a PITA do do on the ground but it can be done......the worst part is the right side center bearing that you have to "gently pry" out from the retainer........yeah right........I had to use a chisel to get it out.....rusted in there.....

Not a rip-off by any means. Doing it yourself will be cheaper - but if thats not an option (for whatever reason), then $380 seems like an average number. You could probably find a place do it cheaper, and you'll probably find places that cost more too... so its a toss-up - if you just picked the place randomly, call around and see what others are asking... if its a shop you use all the time and you trust them to do good work, the little extra is worth it (IMHO).
I've got it for about $350 for both. I don't think that it would be a rip off if you got it at that price. Unfortunately, it would be considerably lower if you would do it yourself.
