Battery Not Keeping a Charge
Battery Not Keeping a Charge
Hello guys,
I need some opinions, my battery in my car is not keeping a charge for more than 2 days. If I do not start it by the third day of letting her sit, the battery dies. I have a optima yellow top and the alt was changed a few months ago. I have a 1200 watt system in my car, underglow, viper alarm, 400watt inverter, ps2, radar detector, all of which is powered off. The only thing still draining power is the alarm system. Any ideas?

Is it not driven much? I had one that sat for months and the alarm drained it so I had to jump it. I drove it a little and then it sat for like a week---dead again. But the battery didn't need to be replaced. It just needed to be driven for a long time or on a regular daily basis so that the charge could be built back up. So if your car sits a lot, that might be it. If not, you will need a new battery.

Hmmm, if a car sits for a long period of time, yeah the battery will eventually die. But is the battery fairly new?
Ive let my car sit for a couple of weeks and it started just fine. I have an alarm as well.
Sounds like somthing may be pulling power nonstop and killing your car. I dont think an alarm led blinking would pull enough power to kill you battery in a matter of weeks.
Thanks for all the replies. I have a optima yellow top and its only a year old. I may need to new alt again. Last night I heard a lot of alt. whine. Any suggestions on a hi output alt? I know deezo got one rated at 250amps but had some fitment issues. Any hi output alternators that are direct replacement? I am already running a 125 amp alt right now and it's less than a year old.
Im with Maxlausay .. I'd check the Alternator wires .... same thing happened to my Honda (that POS is sold now to some sucker who thought it was "a good deal" knowing what all was wrong with it, and 6 months later he is STILL sinking money into it.......) I was so mad cause it was a brand new alternator and it still just sucked the battery down after a couple days of not driving it -- after it would drive just fine as long as everyday I was driving it for a long period of time. Pissed me off so bad. Turns out it was the alternator wiring that was messed up from when they put the new engine in it (Never use a backwoods backyard country @$$ Chevy mechanic to put in your brand spankin new Honda motor....just for future reference, it will never run again and that will be $2000+ that you will have to swallow)
