Aftermarket Dust boots...KYB or something else?
Well my front dustboots are ripped and so I need to replace them asap before winter. Does anyone have the part #'s for the KYB boots for the front? Is the front off of a Mustang or Miata? Also where can I find them for purchase online?

RELATED QUESTION:
Mine are ripped too. How urgent is it that they be replaced? I live in DC - cold weather, infrequent snow, salted roads, etc. Should I do it ASAP, or can it wait? I'm po', so if I don't have to spend the money now, that'd be nice.

If I remember correctly, someone else posted in another forum that the part #'s were sb103's for the fronts and sb108's for the rear. (they are for different cars since KYB doesn't make a set specifically for the 4th gens) That's what I bought since I recently did struts on my Max. I didn't have to modify the boots at all, just the stock rubber that was there. I left the top portions of the stock rubber mounts to take up the proper space. No need to cut or modify the KYB's. They look and work great. Bought mine from a local autoparts store that carried KYB products. Just call around and fine a parts store that carries KYB stuff and order them. Mine were 16.00 a piece.

Are you saying that you left part of the stock dust boot on??
I didn't leave part of the dustboots on there, just part of the rubber bumpers that take up space on the shaft of the strut. I think I left the very top portion of each, and on the rears you will see that the stock rubber bumper sits in a metal cup. I cut the bumper with a hacksaw to take off any excess below the first bulg after the cup insert. Cut it at it's thinnest part, leaving one bulb of rubber stock and the KYB's take up the rest of the room. Also, with the KYB's, you'll notice that with the part #s that I listed (sb103, sb108), that the fronts come with a metal washer inserted inside the boot. Take it out and just slide the boot down on the shaft. Otherwise, the bumpers on the KYB's take up too much room. For the rears, what you have to do is stretch the boot over the little welded on flange washer on the strut shaft, so the boot is on the bottom of the little washer instead of riding on the top of it. Otherwise, you run out of room there too. I'll try to take some photo's if I can of my GR-2's with the KYB boots.

Two part numbers because the rears are different from the fronts.

SB106 - Front
SB108 - Rear
Then daveyg68 says:
sb103
sb108
I somehow tend to trust njmaxseltd's judgement though as he is one of the .org's suspension experts.

Cattman also sells them. He's a very trustworthy seller in my experience.
He'll make sure you end up with the correct model numbers too (just tell him the year of your max). Prices are excellent when you buy with the springs or struts. Forget how much he charges when bought alone.

The dustboots on my '98 Max were completely shredded. I have no idea how long they had been that way since I'd never bothered to check them, but the "exposure" hadn't seemed to effect the struts/shocks, which were still OK at 96K miles.
Replacing them would require just as much work as installing new struts.

I hope the models are SB103- Front and SB108- rear because I just ordered a set from coximport.com for my 99 max. I hate to think I ordered the wrong size. Price was 58.73 shipped.

Yeah, njmaxseltd must have had a typo cause I found an old post where he said SB103 and SB108.
You can save some money by regreasing the old bearings. They pry apart very easily with a small screwdriver. Use Lithyum (sp?) grease, not wheel bearing grease. Clean them up, regrease and snap them back together.
You can save a few more bucks getting the KYB dust boots from your local auto parts store. You need p/n SB103 and SB108 (2 of each). You can pick them up for about 15 bucks each.
Here is the thread about 4 post down.
