u dont have to take off the tb to clean the back of the butterfly plate just open the butterfly most cleaning cans come with the spray straw aim it up at the back of the plate then take a tooth brush to that sucker it will clean just fine then after stick the towel in there with your finger and wipe it clean just make sure u dont loose the towel in the process that would be a headache haha

cleaning the throttle body is a nice simple task with some good feeling results, BUT, its just a small part of the whole intake system. How do you clean deep inside to get a real, deep clean.

HAHA He said take it off and clean the hole...

I do tb often. Actually it is one of the easiest of the maintenance bits you can do to the car, besides octane booster or change filter.

Remove the intake plenum, I cleaned it all up to the manifold when I changed my rear valve cover gasket, if you want to do that just to clean it I would recommend changing all gaskets, intake plenum gasket, rear valve cover, maybe the sparkplug oil seals.. Because once you take that apart...

You never want to do it again.. lol

After reading the instructions on that canadian page, I decide to give this a shot. I just went to AutoZone, bought some STP Throttle Body Cleaner for $2.50. I just got done cleaning it and taking it for a test drive.

Results: feels the same.

Just make sure to hold onto the MAF hose near the plenum... if not the car will turn off.

Yes its going to studder, if u sprayed alot it might not even turn on for a few cranks.. Its normal but once it burns off it will/should get back to normal.. Unless you screwed with the MAF....

Wait till the Temperature gauge is in the middle, thats when your car is warmed up... anytime under there the car is going to idle high because it needs to run a little bit to warm itself up.

normal is around 600rpm +/- 100rpms

If I spay in there w/the car running, will a lot of smoke come out of the exhaust. My neighbors might call the Fire Dept. on me..... I smoked up the whole city when I poured seafoam into my G Cherokee a while back!!!!

There a lot of people on hear that forgot how it was when they first started working on cars. You always ask questions the first time you do something so you dont screw something up. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Make sure you use throttle body cleaner so you don't screw up the coating in the TB

use the actual throttle body cleaner spray and it costs like 4 dollars...
Anyways I had my car off and just cleaned the tb by the endges of butterfly plate... I noticed some improvement in idling and some few more horsepowers, but I dont think it lasted for too long. been a week since i ve done it and car seems to be normal as before tb cleaning.
