I was picking up a case of motor oil the other day and saw some fuel injector cleaner on sale. I think Daniel B. had posted something about this before. Anyway, I was wondering if it's just a gimmick, or does the stuff actually work. The clerk said that the Chevron Techron one is very good. Supposedly it's a Techron concentrate and you pour it into your gas tank with a fillup.

Anyone had any experience with this stuff and what brand did you use?

"Shogun"

I use the fuel injector cleaner called "Shogun". They state on the bottle "the fuel injector cleaner designed for imports", so I guess that's what got me trying it, also that I see it a lot in car magazines. I recommend it, they have three bottles in their line of treatments. Octane booster, fuel injector cleaner, and complete fuel treatment.

I've had good results with fuel injector cleaners, the kind you put in the gas tank. I recommend it where there is a clear indication of an injector problem. I don't recommend it for use as a preventive measure.

IMHO all name-brand fuel injector cleaners are equally good at cleaning injectors. Techron claims to also clean carbon deposits from the stems of intake valves. Certain engines -- older four cylinder Toyotas in particular -- have this problem. I've never heard of it in the VQ30DE engine used in our 4Gen Maximas. For this reason I would not pay the higher cost for Techron.
