auto tranny just crapped out

My 96 GLE auto transmission just screwed up, can't go anywhere in reverse or first, second gear is gone, and the car only pulls itself in third or fourth. A guy from the transmission shop said their is an 03' auto tranny close that he can get that's guaranteed but my question is does it fit? he says it's the same thing.

I'm not sure about fitment issues with the auto, but if that '03 is atuo, they have the same gear ratios, BUT, the final drive is a bit lower, so a little higher revving at highway speeds.

Have you mentioned to him your doubts about it fitting?
