96 Auto problems
96 Auto problems
I'm posing this question with out all the facts and because the search function is disabled.
My daughter has a 96 Maxima with approx 80,000 miles. This is our 4th Maxima but first with auto.
She had a leak which was fixed with a new seal by the local dealer.
Now, just a month later, it's leaking again and the dealer says the pressure is too high causing the seal to blow again.
Any ideas from anyone?
She's an underpaid, first year teacher in Rock Hill, SC just outside Charlotte, NC. She's new to this area as well. Does anyone know any good mechanics near her?

It will be helpful for other .org members who may be able to anwer your questions if you leave a little more detail about the "leak," such as what kind of fluid is leaking from where. For mechanic info you may have better luck finding one in Regional Group Forums.
I can't help with local mechanics at all...but...hopefully give you some info to help you defend yourself and duaghter from getting gouged.
The shaft seals of the automatic are not in a pressurized part of the system. The transmission is vented though, and if that vent is plugged pressure could build as a result of everything warming up. That pressure could build high enough to do what you say...but plugged vent tubes are unlikely.
I can't say if the input shaft seal is pressurized or not...but putting pressure behind a rotating seal is generally something designers avoid.
It is very possible the seal wasn't installed properly...either damaged or not squarely placed.
Good luck.
Good luck.
